Somehow this robot video doesn't look real. What do you think?

BY THE SWEAT OF YOUR BROW.

Chapter of Genesis 3:19 wrote:
"By the sweat of your face You will eat bread;
Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken;
For you are dust, And to dust you shall return."

Well, it's Christmas Eve. I'm sure it must seem incongruous in Australia, all those songs about snow and sleighrides in the middle of summer.. :lol:

These seem appropriate, somehow... :lol:

Let the raucous sleighbells jingle
Hail our dear old friend Chris Kringle
Driving his reindeer across the sky
Don't stand underneath when they fly by.

Quite different, but I really went out of my way to look this up to listen to this evening.

Another performance (with a longer monologue at the beginning):

For those of you who "keep Christmas", Merry Christmas.

I'm not quite sure why, but this suddenly came to mind this evening so I went a-hunting on YouTube.

This really brings back memories. I first heard this way back around the mid-80s, during one of the times I was actually playing table tennis. There were a couple of tables in the basement of Eigenmann Hall (the grad student dorm, which also had quite a few foreign undergrads), and one of the regular players lived there. He had this album (vinyl). I've got a copy on cassette tape SOMEWHERE...

If you watched the much more recent animated War of the Worlds movie (which was a sequel), you'd have heard this song in the background.

Speaking of HG Wells...

Drachinifel mostly makes "5 minute guides" to warships (more or less.. :lol: ). Everything from Age of Sail to post WW2 (I haven't seen him do anything really modern yet, like Aegis destroyers or Nimitz-class carriers). This one is different - he reads a chapter out of "War of the Worlds". The 1860s to 1890s was a very interesting time in warship development, from the introduction of steam propulsion, armor, shell guns, from the early ironclads to pre-Dreadnoughts. Things were far from settled, no one really had any idea of what the best form was for warships, and there were lots of strange, wonderful experiments, from the circular Russian "Popovkas" to the Frech "Hotels at Sea". War of the Worlds was set in the 1890s, the fictional "Thunderchild" was one of these pre-modern vessels.

The best time to listed to this would be right before bed, with a cup of hot chocolate, when you have 20 minutes to spare.
