Post subject:  Underspin ssrvice return with P1R

Hi I just changed from Dtechs to P1r, and I really like it, but i do struggle with short underspin serves.
I seem to return the serves too passively.
I have this problem whenever I need to push short underspin or nospin shots.
Maybe it is a faulty bat angle, would you push with flat batangle ( pointing up ) or would you rather push with the blade pointing forward ?
How would you return a push from your opponent ?

Any help is really appreciated.

:D

Try coming across the axis of the ball,p1r is spin sensitive and this helps if your struggling, watch the Thomas Bennborn video against Rumgay to see how p1r ox works at a high level I notice how he lifts more than pushes on serve return

I use p1r 1,0 does that make any difference for the technique?

If it's a short no-spin/backspin serve, I'd just bump it back short. If you need to push no spin or underspin, you can do two things: 1) push with a full motion (starting the stroke behind the ball and end in front of it) or 2) just a short contact (I think the bat angle is almost parallel to the table - flat bat angle).

Pr-1 has pimples of its own. Teh pimple have ribbed side with strong base of the pimple. So the pimple has a catapult effect if really bent. So on good underspin serve you can use swipe shot ( see chen weixing practice) or chechine ? ( russian player) that just really brush uneder the ball hard in an horizontal action) This one is really special as you will feel the ball just Rolling on the pimple and then just been catapult back with topspin effect.

Loads of ways you can return that serve, as those above have pointed out. I guess the key is making it difficult for your opponent.

If they're expecting it mid length, you need to put it either long or short. If you're not confident about keeping it short (or your opponent has a wicked flick), get it long.

Horizontal swipe is a really effective stroke if you can force your opponent wide to their forehand or hard/wide into their backhand (especially if they're coming round to play a forehand from their backhand corner).
