From description only, as I have yet to sight a poly ball in the wild, it would appear that 2 of an attackers main weapons are being somewhat negated - speed and spin, particularly top spin. From this it would appear that retrieving as a technique may be somewhat more viable with the poly ball.

Any (closet) retrievers that have had an encounter with the poly ball able to confirm or deny?

I'm a part time retriever! (Part time looper/hitter/twiddling chopper/blocker/whatever else there is!) and I don't think the difference in balls makes a massive difference: I do have anti-spin on my backhand, so that takes a lot of spin out, but I've definitely found that the ball seems easier to get to when lobbing.

Thanks for your reply. This does sort of validate my suspicion.

I have still only had a 15 - 20 minute hit with a Stag seamless poly ball, and since had an enforced layoff, so am still at the stage of not returning deep enough. It does not help either that where I play has mainly white walls, so we have been waiting for orange poly balls, and are still using orange celluloid balls.
