Many players slow loop a pushed or chopped ball with ack spin, but how many players can slow loop a top spin ball and keep it on the table? After many years of trial and error, I have found the right mechanics. What I do is take a pretty good swing , but with top spin I have to swing/ stroke the ball forward. This stroke ends up about shoulder/ eye brow high and far put in front of me. I keep the ball on the rubber and sponge on the paddle , not sinking it into the wood or blade. This produces a very spiny , low arching loop that dives to the floor. I can also sink the ball into the wood/ blade that kick hard aand are very fast. Does anyone else use this stroke? Care to share a video Ian? I think it is very hard to slow loop a top spin while keeping the ball low.. the slow loop can be killed with a smash.. |

Because this loop has very low arch and stays very low, it is very difficult to smash successfully. It is very spinny. Unfortunately I have no way to video myself, sorry. I will say it takes a very light touch and tremendous paddle speed. I personally use a lot of wrist, and use Hawsegawa's grip. It's a great and technically very important weapon. It's great specially against choppers. Using it seems a bit ignored today, however still we see some of very good examples from highest level players. |
