Post your guess of the price of the new ball, when it first comes out. The closest guess wins a prize, yet to be determined :o :(
To allow us to compare guesses, post your guess in US$ and the price is per ball, so if it's a pack of 3, divide the price by 3. The price will be that of any of the major manufacturers (one on the ITTF list) when it's first announced.

My Guess: US$3.50 per ball. :o :(

If it's more than the current ball I wont be buying any. No reason pvc should cost more than celluloid especially if they are keeping the original process with the seam.

My guess is US$3.20

I think that this will be close to what they will charge. I dont think that they will get many good will comments if the new ball exceeds the current costs. Also, with the technology used being the same as the current celuloid ball, they 'should' recover some R&D in that area and provide more competition in the market for producers.

Brands will vary in price, but not to complicate this little game I'll guess US$3.75.

the price for nittaku 3 star in my country is USD3.90/box of 3
so my guess for the new ball should be USD2.50/ball :?:

Given they will be utilising the same machinery, it would seam (pun intended :P ), I think any extra cost will only be stocking of the new materials. So the price really shouldn't rise all that much compared to the original plan to make a one piece ball. However, I do think there will be an opportunity for some profit-taking initially before the market forces the price back down. Therefore, I guess $2.60 per ball.

at those prices balls "not coming back to you" at the club and at tournaments will accelerate.

Its also over 1 year away so inflation may make it even higher. I will go initial costs of $5.00 per single ball but when sales drop real low prices will come down a little but still at $4.00/ball here in the USA.

$2.50 a ball. I'll a little more optimistic! Unless of course, inflation goes way up in between now and then, which would obviously affect the price.....

Since the ITTF has given no information about the development of the new ball, it is still a guess as to weather the ball will be one or two pieces.
If they still intend it to be a no seam, one piece ball, all new equipment will be required. if that is the case, I would estimate as much as $5.50 per ball.
If it will be two piece but made from a different material, I will guess $2.99 a ball.
If they leave the size as the "new" specs", (a bigger ball) I would guess the balls will not last as long as the old size, (thinner walls). That effectivily raises the price above the initial cost. :swear:

just some thinking out loud
At the moment only one or two companies seem to be involved with the manufacturing of the new ball and with dominance comes high prices
usually new releases cost more and prices go down with competition

the guess of someones price in Australia may not be the same price received in Germany , China or USA for example
also each company like butterfly, DHS ,Thibhar etc all set different prices now (so why will this change)

In theory because the ball is not Celluloid many more ball making companies may want to make the polyball because they have the facilities

Yes that's true, but I'm trying to keep this simple, so whichever company announces their price (retail) first, is the one we're trying to guess here.

I believe there will be an initial shortage of balls, and the vendors will want to make use of what little hype there is around the new balls. Those elements will drive the price up a bit.
However, with too high price they may shut themselves out of the market.

My guess is an initial RRP of $13.99 for a box of 3, which is 4.66 apiece.

If these prices turn out to be accurate, I can tell you that most people who play will hang on to the current balls as long as possible. And it may drive people away from the sport. I hope the ITTF is happy.
