Nothing to get excited about. "Master Quality" is not even rated one star. Price: $79 for 72 balls. Considering you can get decent quality three-star seamless for even less, this looks like another Butterfly ripoff.

Maybe they are the ones that didn't make the quality standard for G40+ 3-star, but are still from a more expensive process than the 40+ Easy Ball.

At TT11, per-ball pricing works out to ~€1.58 for the G40+ ***, ~€0.58 for the Master and ~€0.42 for the Easy Ball. So I don't think it's that bad.

Well, some people just buy butterfly for this brand, not for the quality. So......whatever.

I'm a practical person, I'll always go for the good-quality one with reasonable price.

Depends on one's point of view - those stars aren't exactly Michelin Stars, after all. I suppose you could call Tenergy 05 a "Butterfly Ripoff" too.. :lol:

Just to be sure (we were all speculating about this months ago when they had that "egg rubbing" competition): These all have seams, right? And they're made in Germany by that company called Wiener or Weener?

AFAICT they are the same German manufacturer (which I've seen spelled "Weener", "Wiener" and "Weiner"…), and they are all seamed, albeit supposedly with uniform wall thickness even at the seam.

I wonder if the Master balls are that much better than the Easy Ball for so little additional cost (or that close to the G40+ 3-star for so much less money), or is it just puffery?

And how about the DHS D40+ that was mentioned on mytabletennis.net earlier today?

Which one's "worst", the DHS mentioned in the immediate previous post, or one of the Butterflys? :lol:

I dunno about ball marketing - if you look at the old celluloid balls, Double Fish had no-star, one-star, two-star and three-star balls. Why so many different types? No real reason, unless they feel they can sell more balls that way. The one-star balls were way good enough for tournament play, in my opinion (I used them exclusively) and were very inexpensive. The no-star balls, on the other hand, had the odd odd bounce.

Just thought I would mention that I bought some of the Master Quality 40+ balls. I have barely used them so far so I can't say anything about durability, but the bounce seems similar to the 40+ Easy Ball (high & lively). Compared with the slightly off-white, slightly translucent Easy Ball, the Master Quality ball is a solid, bright white. At least it looks like it's worth the extra money!

My club was passing out samples of the Butterfly 3-Star Ball G40+ yesterday. The club manager commented that they were all breaking very quickly.

The ball feels hard and makes a decided 'plink' sound when it bounces on the table, almost like glass. Easier to spin than the Nittaku 3* 40+. No visible out-of-roundness. Plays a tad light. But at 10-8 in our first game with the Butterfly 3-Star Ball G40+ it cracked wide open on a hard counter-drive. Sigh..

What a dark period for our sport: Ball variance across manufacturers is unacceptably large, and every 40+ ball has shortcomings, some serious.

This ball behaves very different to other balls like Xushaofa, DHS or whatever, especially when the outer layer has gotten smooth and shiny which leads to very low grip on the table and a highly increased stickyness on even slightly tacky rubbers - but don't count on more spin with this ball since the grip is still less nonetheless.
It was my worst experience with a ball so far, hands down.

By the way, whatever happened to these German balls everyone was talking about two years ago? :lol: :lol: :lol:
