Had a hit with my old JUIC 999, which was sitting in the drawer for about 4 months with out a plastic cover on gathering dust, and it played really well considering it's appearance when I gave it to Haggisv, not to mention it almost had no tack left. The Olive Oil treatment worked well.

I was impressed how loud it was and how spinny it was. I think it was glued up on a fast Carbon blade. I had a trendous kick off the table, looping was very easy. All in all, a old rubber was well revived and played very welll with Falco, it also matched up very well with Carbon.

Yep, my thoughts exactly! The Olive oil worked real well, as did the falco....

The blade was custom blade, LawOCG, Silver and me came up with a few ideas for blade designs (wood types, thickness, etc) and we had them made.

Just a bit more on this topic...

What about Pure and Simple, the soy lecithin based non stick spray for frypans etc...or one of the ten or so imitations....some are made from soy, and some from Canola oil
Could be worth a go...I cant see that anyone has mentioned it yet...I will look closer after I have posted this

Yes, worth a try if you have an old rubber to try it on...

Sounds good! What oil did you use?

Yes the black can usually lift up a ball when new, not sure about the red...

I've just put some olive oil on an old tackiness C and an old bryce fx. What's best: leaving the oil to dry or wiping it off after ... or wiping the surface once it's dry?

I'm trying a new thing now... I will not remove the oil before play, just to see how it works. I got the idea since I forgot to whip the oil of, and when I felt on the rubber, it felt extremely tacky. So I'll leave the oil and see how it works. Btw, the rubber is Geospin tacky.

Leaving the oil on.......what a new concept. Great idea you have! Anyway, nice to know it works. I'll have to try it sometime.

I have now played with the Geospin Tacky that got a "permanent" oil treatment. The tack was HUGE! I could lift a ball and hold it for 3-4 seconds :D Don't know how tacky Geospin tacky is when it's new, so I'm currently doing the same thing to my spinspiel SV, hoping to get the same result.

new it was about 0,5 - 1 sec so its actually an improvement

Just got my bottles of spinmax to try, both the original and the new water based ones.

I plan to compare this to the other cleaners in this thread... In all fairness though, even though spinmax is classed as a cleaner, it's well known to actually add tackiness to the rubbers, making it more than a cleaner...

I will clean the rubber I used in this experiment, see if it can make further improvements. I'll also run a new experiment comparing the two different spinmaxes...

Haggisv - you never did finish this up by telling us how Spinmax compares to the homebrew stuff. Also, I have found that this

http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/408a.html

is amazing at adding tack to rubber, but it leaves the rubber smelling awful (kind of like snuff - must be the methyl salicyate) and is health hazardous.

Hmm interesting product brainstorm69. Table tennis rubber surfaces are pretty delicate, so I tend to be real careful what I use.

Yes I did finish the experiements, and the spinmax does easily outperform the other products by making the rubbers more tacky. But it can't beat the cheap pricetag of the veggie oil
