I've heard it mention a few times now that umpires, when inspecting a player's bat, claim that a rubber without an ITTF number is not legal for competition.

I believe this is incorrect. If you look at the latest LARC, you can find rubbers WITH and WITHOUT ITTF numbers, and both are authorised. All new rubber will have ITTF numbers, but if the old rubber is still on the LARC it's still authorised.

I assume that when it comes to the time of renewal (5 or 10 years?), manufacturers will be required to change their rubbers molds to include an ITTF number, at which time the old one will drop off the LARC, and the new one (With the number) will be added.

Is this your understanding as well?

I have a spare blade with a sheet of black ox D'tecs on it. It does not diplay an ITTF number and one of my friends believes it is an illegal long pimple. He didnt believe me when i showed him the LARC

Sounds like some umpires need education on this subject. Perhaps there's an umpire's guide out there from ITTF that explains this. Or perhaps a preamble to the LARC.

Yeah, ITTF did sanctioned a mandatory dismantle of the racket coverings as part of Racket Control, for examining blade and rubber actual condition. Not good news for Сhina players.

https://documents.ittf.sport/sites/defa ... nts_EN.pdf

Check out the proposed changes to the Racket Control T9, shown in green text. (just enacted by ITTF AGM).

Revision of the due penalties is supposed as well.

That is correct!! I got an old Yinhe 955, which is now illegal whereas the only valid rubber which is on the LARC is 955 with the corresponding number >> 49-015

Waiting for the day when umpires dismantle a top players paddle, find a problem, and impose a penalty
