A 45 degree sponge is dang hard it could injure a mad dog.
A 50-60 degree sponge ?
1. You will carry around 500g of bat. Good workout for your playing arm ;)
2. Improvised weapon
3. Epic smashing
4. Epic reversal if the topsheet is anti

I am just curious sir. What sponge are you using :?:

The Palio Thor's says it's a 54 degree sponge and I tend to believe that. It's significantly harder than the Palio Macro ERA I used to play with and that was 47.5. There's a strong difference between the two.

Bob Petty, Table Tennis International, carries a 60 degree sponge by Komann (Winning). It's called extra 60 and is rated on the package as Speed: 9, Control: 6, Hardness: 60. It is made in Japan and sells for about $6.00 U.S. He only carries it in 2.0 and 2.2 mm.

Welcome to the forum Mister Chopwell!

60deg I can believe, but $6 for a rubber made in Japan is hard to believe :o :o :o Komann is a Chinese brand, so I suspect it's probably made in China.

Thank you for the welcome.....The Extra 60 package says Japanese Sponge on the front and on the back says made in Japan. That's all I have to go by. This is sponge only.

yep.....sponge only. That's what tOD asked for. If it's not made in Japan, Komann is practising deception on their package. They wouldn't do that, would they? :^)

No manufacturer would do that!   It's most likely genuine as you say...$6 for a japanese sponge is quite reasonable, especailly since some CHinese rubbers use a Japanese sponge as well, and they tend to cost probably double that, so that probably fair.

I paid 3 times as much, once, for a Japanese sponge that appeared to be very high quality and was packaged very nicely. I don't remember it playing any better than less expensive Chinese sponges though. This Komann sponge looks just like a lot of other Chinese sponges I have bought before, except for the density. It's not my sponge of choice. As a card carrying E.J., I'm required to try a lot of different stuff.
