Hi all,

I want to buy a ping pong table, and I'm debating whether to buy an indoor table or an outdoor table. I want to buy an indoor table (and risk it) since I understood the outdoor tables are worse and I play on a high club level so I don't want a bad table.

Although the table will be kept outside, I plan to cover it with a tarp cover (or other if advised) and my question is this -
will the table survive? and for how long?

The expected weather is -
between +10(c) and +40(c),
at times very humid,
most of the times sunny,
sometimes rain (up to very heavy rain).

Any advice on how to keep an indoor table alive outside is most welcome.

Thanks for the help,
Alex

The weather conditions will kill it if it's an indoor table kept outside... I would guess the surface will start to swell in less than a year. I would not recommend it. :(

Thank you for the reply.

If I fold the table and cover it will it be ruined just the same?

Thanks,
Alex

Most likely. "Very humid" and "very heavy rain" means that the outdoors is a hostile environment to that tabletop. I wouldn't risk it. If it rains on the outside of that tarp, the rain cools the surface so that humidity from the air will be condensed on the inside. Even if it is completely waterproof there will be water trickling down on the inside.

Any indoor table would eventually warp if stored outdoors in the manner you described. I had a Kettler Stockholm outdoor table and they're not as bad as you might think, though their bounce is certainly not has high as a 25-30mm thick tournament-grade table.

If you have to have a table for outside play then take it out only when you need to use it and in good weather. Otherwise, store it inside a shed or something, preferably covered with a cloth.
