Maybe one of you can measure the thickness of those antiques and weigh them.
Or even measure the speed. I'm curious if they reach 1400 Hz.

I've made a search on Google after the DHS 80S and found something like this:



Is this the structure they have? 7 tick equal layers?

The ones I got have a slightly thinner top layer, but equal for the rest. One measures 6.7-6.8mm (sorry, my caliper is not exact) and the other 7.2-7.3mm. The thinner one weighs 97g and measure 1342 hz, the thicker one is 106g and measures 1463. Haven't had the chance to play yet, but the thinner one feels crisper and has a slight amount of flex on hard impact, while the thick one has very little deformation (from feel), nevertheless, both much stiffer, denser, but less "whippy/trampoline-like" than the Clipper.

We were speaking of Antique.
A worker colleague bringed me to examine, his grandpa's blade.
Here it is:







It was bought at the beginning of the 8th-ies and it was used for some years.
I will give a few balls with it today to see how it feels.

I had this blade in penhold from a 70 year old player and it s almost perfect better than many 100$ blades

You used to be able to buy these from Chinese bookstores. In general, they were pre-made, and came in various brands and quality. Usually VERY heavy, though this didn't matter so much for penhold versions which had the rubber only on one side. Meteor was one brand, Double Happiness (today's DHS) was another. I suspect they were made from readily available bass plywood (the factory bought the plywood from a supplier and cut out the blades rather than make the plywood themselves).

I've since bought 6 of these "types", all I use nowadays. Nothing feels more satisfying to smash with.

yeh that blades are so cool for smashing and some of them increase the sink of many short pips
what blade have you bought?

Not sure about the "sink" component, but yes, stiff and solid yet still crisp. Nice linear/mild repulsive feel (which is nearly impossible with modern light weight blades).

So far: DHS 08, N08S, Meteor A813N, Shield Brand 6050, Double Fish, and an old Palio DA. Brand doesn't matter, different shape, thicknesses and weights.

Back when these were in serious use the Chinese national style was penhold pips-out hitting. So that's what they're good for, I assume. The heavy blades would be made up for with relatively light rubber, and there was only one sheet of it. There were shakehands blades made, most I saw had pretty poor inverted rubber sheets (the topsheets would come off after a while), but I thought they were heavy.

I bought for about 250 RON (almost 50€) a second-hand combo in January 2019, when I was still in my first 4-5 months since starting table tennis.

The seller told me that the blade is Tibhar, but actually it was written Sunflex. It seems that's an old school allwood, I don't think I could find a heavier paddle here in Romania with the Tibhar Speedy Spin rubbers which are also obsolete.

Actually Sunflex does provide blades for many brands, but I don't think a Tibhar could have been designed like this.

I didn't found anything about that Sunflex CPO 1050, it seems it's from a pre-assembled bat, but the combo was very nice and fast. I bought a cPen blade after 1 month and kept it in a drawer at work.

Looks like a nice hardwood core blade. Does it feel solid?

Almost no vibration, however very good for blocking, spinny looping and flat hits .

My friend just sent me this all the way from Malaysia. My eyes can't tell what ply configuration it is but looks like a cool old PF4 of some sort to add to my old 032. Will have fun changing the rubber on it, I need to try some new short pips! I'm still stuck on 651 at max sponge. Happy holidays everyone.


Update: 1/4/2021. Turns out this is a 7 Ply bat with original
PF4 rubber. Possibly a pre-stamped PF4-08.

The rubber is so sticky the first ball I hit it got stuck to the rubber. After some hits I was able to generate a decent loop but the sponge itself is toast. If I can find a good sponge, I’d replace it and keep the ultra tacky PF4 rubber on it.

Some other antique bats from my collection. This one is a meteor, with red inverted rubbber on both sides. Still has some decent pop left! The 5 ply is very similar to the construction of an 032. I think I’ll take off one of the side and replace it with DHS 651 Max 2.2mm

I have this one in penhold with 2 red inverted rubber. It hits really great and clean. I think I’ll change one side to short pips (black). I’m curious to find out what brand rubber it has and replace it with the same or similar.
