Not sure if a thread has been started on this forum.
What's your opinion on more colour choices? Will it change the game much?
(I wish I kept my Bty bat with green rubbers from the early 1970's. :) )

The Yasaka Tornado from around 1980 was a beautiful transparent honey color.

In ITTF watch I started a thread where I summarised the various motions to be submitted to the AGM and BoD. I then summarised the summary :) . This was one of the motions, which has apparently passed.

IMO the rubber manufacturers will bring out various coloured rubbers, maybe even the original colours for rubbers that were around prior to the red and black rule and even the no sharing of primary colour rule. There will be players who think that not having their rubber in its original colour has changed its behaviour. For some rubbers they may well be correct.

There will also be the possibility of "accessorizing" the rubber colour to your outfit - wear blalck shorts and green top and use black and green rubbers for example.

I am not in favour of this. I am not sure how soon we will see non-red bright coloured rubber that is not the same colour as the ball. If it is very soon then how would the rubber manufacturers know, unless "the fix was in"?

I don't think, this is such a smart move.

More colors means manufacturers will now have to stock more inventory for different dyes and machines to handle different colors - this will result in higher prices. Wide arrays of inventory will open doors to fakes as it will be come harder to maintain quality with so many stock units.

Some supplemental coloration to make your life a joyment endless. As proposed by EQ ITTF.
The SkyBlue is my choice of preference, it makes me feel like being on Seventh Heaven, indeed....

I think it will be a nightmare for retailers, they won't know what to stock! :( :( :(

I don't think it would change the game much though, the characteristics will basically stay the same.

If allowed, the dark blue on one side, with black on the other side would be good for deception.
It would make it more difficult for the opponent to pick out the long pimples side.
This would probably not be allowed.

I'm not a big fan of this change.

Did they give any justification of why more variety in rubber colors is needed?

Color blind people need lots of consideration here too.

I think it's basically pointless but if they want to add a couple of colors and keep black on 1 side, that's ok.

This reminds me of that guy who showed up about four years ago.. back in 1952 he'd bought a copy of Satoh's Armstrong japanese penhold bat with yellow 5/16" bare sponge. He played pretty well with it, then stopped playing and was thinking of getting back into it. And was highly annoyed to find that his bat was now illegal. I mean, sure, maybe the rubber might have changed after the red/black rule came into force, but good grief - that was SUCH A LONG TIME AGO - said rubber "in its original form" has not been available for what, 30+ years?? Any such player would be in his late 50s or 60s (or more likely, even older), and no one else would even remember what that rubber was like, since they came along long after they quit making that rubber.

As with pretty much every equipment rule change imposed on us, the only benefit I can possibly see is to the manufacturers.

As Haggisv says, an absolute nightmare for equipment retailers, who will potentially have to invest in more stock without a greater return. Either that or they will reduce the number of lines to compensate for the additional colours.

I wonder if they would instead start releasing their lines in a single color: Rasant(er) becomes green (duh!), Bluefire is blue (no brainer) etc. Keeps number of SKUs manageable.

I don't know what the motivation was behind this change, but I suspect the increase in ITTF approval fees would enticed the ITTF to approve this.

Supposing you want to use two Rasanters on one blade? Hmm.. Actually, that shouldn't be a problem, since both sides are inverted... Problem is maybe all Feints will also become green.... Yeah, they'd have to offer all rubbers in at least two different colors, just like they do now.
