Hi All, Having big hands, I'm struggling to find a blade with a big enough handle. I like the butterfly ALC blades but unfortunately their handles are fairly small - I've had Timo Boll Spirit Anatomic, Viscaria Flared, Zhang Jike ALC Anatomic and currently using Timo Boll ALC Straight, none of them feeling as comfortable is my old Donic Dima Speedster Flared with a considerably beefier handle. The straight handle of TB ALC is least worst, but I feel that in stronger shots especially FH topspin the bottom of the handle feels less secure in my palm and likes to move around slightly, which reduces accuracy and feeling. Would a grip tape be a solution? What are its pros/cons? Are there any professional players beyond Vladimir Samsonov and Michael Maze using a grip tape? Would a grip tape behave differently applied to let's say a straight handle vs a flared handle? Thanks |

Butterfly soft grip is the best one I have tried.you can relax your grip pressure a little and play more relaxed,my results improved since I used it and did beef up the blade handle to my liking |

Not only helps re that but my game has actually improved due to the looser grip tape allows. I am using the Yonex tape available on Amazon - as well as cheap it is very thin which suits TT handles |

Chasfox, Is that with a ST, FL or AN handle? Did you wrap it around the whole handle or just the bottom part? Could you please share a picture? |

ST. and on whole handle. On flared you could just wrap the middle section. |

Something that has gone out of fashion these days is leather-wrapped handles. These were actually quite popular before the 1980s - usually an oval ST handle spiral wrapped with a strip of leather. If you look at Butterfly catalogs from the 1970s you'll find the "English Style" and "American Style" blades. Iskandar |

I'm not a fan of thick wraps, but I've used some light wrapping on certain blades in the past. In my experience there is a bit of a acclimatization period before you regain your touch, but once you've adjusted it's usually not an issue. As someone who twiddles the blade, I especially don't like wraps that are too sticky as they interfere with the twiddling too much! |

Iskandar I could have done with leather wrap on my 1976 bty Surbek,the handle was gloss varnished and it flew out of my sweaty hand in a summer league match forcing opponent to duck lol |

Oh yeah! Back then it was the fashion to heavily varnish blade handles. Butterfly did it, Stiga did it, a bunch of people did it, even the cheap Chinese bats you found in Chinese bookstores. The better ones actually had pictures of the eponymous players plastered to the handles. Apparently one way to mitigate that was to wrap a couple rubber bands around the bottom of the grip. I used big tennis overgrip tapes (the thinnest ones can find in sport stores). What I did not like, racket handles became unpleasant wet very soon. And they start to scent like dirty socks after a while. Overgrip solves a problem of the thin handle, but now I use bare Stiga straight handles that are sufficiently thick for me. |

So I did. Istvan Jonyer's practical advice to all players: -- When seeking for a better grip, wait till your hand gets wet with perspiration, not before. |

Final thought : In the final match before the season was curtailed I beat my old nemesis after years of defeats .The previous 16 losses were without softgrip."Nobody beats Phil.R more than 16 times in a row!" I jokingly said to him. Seriously though was more down to a couple of new serves but I wouldn't be without the grip now and feel it contributed |
