While trying to be funny, sometimes some people make the wrong comparisons.I want to believe our dear Igor is a good man, just creating controversy to have a good time ..... sometimes he succeeds in making the occasional lp player angry but those who know about his adventures in the online world know he is just a jester , like those in the court of the kings in the Middle Ages,....

Yeah, the only one who cares (or pretends to care) is Igor. God doesn't care, the Pope doesn't care, the United Nations doesn't care, ITTF doesn't care, the Japanese don't care, the Chinese actually embrace long pips and boosting, and I doubt if even Putin cares. Poor widdle Igor.

Igor has mental issues and he claims chinese players are cheaters because they destroy rusian players.

Most (sane) competitive sports committees only ban things that are "overpowered", to borrow from video game terminology (see my name). They don't ban things because some people don't like it. Plenty of people don't like to play against a competent attacker with boosted tensor hybrid rubbers on a fast carbon blade. Most aren't calling for banning that.

Are frictionless pips too strong? I would hazard a guess not. Just look at high or even moderate level play. Pips in general are not dominant. Therefore this pip-hating mania that seems to be endorsed by ITTF is misplaced in my opinion. Pips offer variety in play styles, and in many cases (as keem pointed out), accessibility, both of which should be encouraged and celebrated in a sport.

Also, I do some work with tribology (the measurement of friction and surface wear), and it's very complicated and has many, many variables, to say the least. I'm not convinced this steel slider thing is the most rigorous way of testing how the ball will act on a LP...
