As bcbcbc made this list some time ago, I thought of updating this list and comparing it to the one which was made 15 years ago

I will also use the same abbreviations as bcbcbc used:
forehand rubber / backhand rubber
ph = penhold, shakehand otherwise
sp = short pip
mp = medium pips
lp = long pips with sponge
lp ox = long pips with no sponge
anti

men
17. Mattias Falck attacker sp/inv
35. Ruwen Filus chopper/looper inv/lp
41. Wang Yang chopper/looper inv/sp
63. Gionis Panagiotis chopper/looper inv/lp

comparison: in 2007, there were 15 pips players in the top 100, right now there are only 4

women
4. Mima Ito attacker inv/sp
20. Yang Xiaoxin attacker inv/lp
21. Suh Hyo Won defender inv/lp
22. Miyuu Kihara attacker inv/sp
25. Hitomi Sato defender inv/sp (maybe lp?)
28. Shan Xiaona attacker ph sp
31. He Zhuojia attacker inv/lp
37. Ni Xia Lian chop blocker inv(maybe sp?)/lp ox
(39. Fu Yu attacker ph inv (has sp on her backside))
42. Mo Zhang attacker sp/inv
48. Manika Batra chop blocker inv/lp ox
56. Li Qian defender inv/lp(maybe sp?)
57. Linda Bergstrom defender inv/lp
58. Honoka Hashimoto defender inv/sp (maybe lp?)
66. Kim Song I defender inv/lp
73. Ando Minami attacker inv/sp (mp)
81. Amelie Solja chop blocker sp/anti
82. Liu Fei defender inv/lp
91. Galia Dvorak attacker inv/lp

comparison: there are currently 19 pips players in the top 100. In 2007, there were 27

conclusion: The number of pips players has decreased quite significantly which I find rather sad because I am big fan of the variety in playing styles

Clearly , this is another proof of the new ball being so poor for the defensive style .
