A thread containing a (maintained) current recommended selection of "all-round" 5 ply wooden blades that we can point to when people ask.

Low price

- Yasaka Sweden Extra (ALL+, Yaska rated 16/20 speed 17/20 control), recommended by LordCope. Price 32 euro on tabletennis11.
- Stiga Allround Classic
- Donic Applegren Allplay
- Sanwei M8, recommended by Iskandar. Price $not_much on Aliexpress

Medium Price

High Price

Perhaps we could organise it by price too - cheap, intermdiate, and luxury?

From my own experience, I like the Yasaka Sweden Extra, and have also used and liked the Stiga Allround Classic, and the Donic Applegren Allplay - they're all similar in price.

Ones I'm aware of but haven't tried:

Joola Falcon Medium
Joola Challenger
Butterfly Grubba
Andro Timber

Perhaps a sentence or two summarising the blade, together with "stated" stats from manufacturer or distributor would be useful too?

Ultra-cheap, but I think it's the best I've tried (which includes the Yinhe N11, the Stiga Allround Classic and one or two others) - the Sanwei M8. The handle might be a little small for some people but it's about right for me. Same thing with the weight, I have some that weigh around 72g, and at the heavier end I have some that are 82g or so. This is lighter than the Stiga (~80g). Probably too light for some people, perfect for me. Not the best in build quality (the N11 was hard to beat, and the Stiga was actually not that great.. the lens was on a little crooked), but the problems were blems in the handle wood, nothing to worry about. It's not very pretty, I'll have to admit. Don't mind the "OFF++" printed on the face - that's a typo  . The Sanwei catalog calls is an ALL+ IIRC.

I remember from when I first started playing, and was good friends with the (then) UK importer/distributor of DHS stuff, he told me that most of the DHS blades rated as "off++" were actually ALL+ at most. It's a bit confusing compared to the japanese/swedish ones where ALL really means ALL. I think I had a DHS Dipper (I think it was called) that was marked thusly, but was not really much faster than my friend's Stiga ARC.

Worthy of inclusion: The Yasaka Sweden Classic All Round. Has Limba and Ayous composition. Control is the name of the game with the YSC All Round. Fairly cheap too. True gem!

I'll have add this: If you need a half dozen or a dozen blades to equip, say, a youth training program for kids who can't afford to buy rackets, the M8 would cost you 30% of what you'd pay for a similar number of, say, Stiga Allround Classics. You can even get Eacheng to put the rubber on for you, and there are inexpensive blade/rubber combos available. The big disadvantage of buying stuff on AliExpress, though, is that shipping times have gotten really bad - it might be worth it to pay a little extra for expedited shipping.

I bought one for my son and found the inner thick ply to be made of 3 pieces. Are all M8s like that or I'm just unlucky?

I'm particularly fond of the SpinLord Ultra Spin myself, even as I keep trying to venture out to new blades, I seem to keep gravitating back to it.

Xiom allround S and Diva blades have good user reviews, the latter is very nicely quality for the price all+ to off - blade

ChasThere's a few in the local leagues using those Xiom blades courtesy of S Winnard.
I don't usually like Koto outer ply(prefer limba)but the Diva is a gem, very easy topspinning blade woth soft or medium hard rubbers,I was surprised at the control when I tried out a friend's,he had Vega Elite on it

How many plies total? Should be no more than five.

Not doubting that Sanwei M8 is a good blade as I've got one but I don't think its a true Allround. Its definately that the likes of the Appelgren Allplay and Sweden Classic. N11 is also much faster, not crazy fast but not Allround, nor is the 896.

Joola Falcon Medium is another that I think is a bit faster.

Personally I think this is a very good resource for bat speeds.

Anything under say 1200 would be Allround, above that we heading toward Off- territory.
