Hi , I have been enjoying the Palio expert 3 and enjoy playing matches with it. I noticed the Master 3 is about 15 grams lighter than the expert 3 (175 vs160g) and I heard that generally heavier bats you can put more pace on the ball. They say the master 3 is a faster bat than the expert 3 so have people found that? Does it have a similar level of control and spin. Would you consider it an upgrade - the master is only slightly more expensive? Thanks Steve |

These sound like pre-mades. I haven't tried them myself but they're probably middle-of-the-road all wood blades. The 15 grams is quite a bit, but you'll find that individual examples of both will vary in weight more than that - if there's one thing that manufacturers haven't figured out yet is how to make blades that all weigh the same. Doesn't matter how cheap or expensive the blades are, even the really expensive defensive blades will vary quite a bit from example to example. In a way this is good, because it gives you a choice - if your retailer has a lot of them in stock you can ask him/her to supply a blade of a specific weight range, or you could ask them to send the lightest blade, or the heaviest blade, or a matched pair. The ideal weight, I think, depends on how you play. If you're a close-to-the-table hitter or blocker you'd want something lighter, if you play further back and counter-loop maybe a heavier racket would be better than a lighter one. Considering what these probably cost, which I wouldn't expect to be very much, I'd suggest just buying one and trying it out for yourself. Iskandar |
