My basic strategy would be to play to his BH to setup the point, then loop wide and hard to the FH. I'd also look for heavy chops, and attack those with my pips into his body...

I play them similar to traditional choppers. Loop hard and away from them.

But most (many) of the players I've played with are very good at spin variation, both pips and inverted, they use that to setup their points, especially at the first five balls.

I can't recall if I met someone with a very strong opening attack in this particular style. Unless of course, the return was a no-spin or a topspin pop-up, but no hard looping/hitting at the start. Going for the consistent spinny loop, looking for a good chop or two to make me move a lot.

i usually coax modern defenders into attack, to bring myself to counterhit into their pips, or slow loop away from their backhand.

if they start attacking me and moving near the table, i plug the corners.

Try to use as little spin as possible against their BH?

I play with several guys that use this type of style. All of them are fairly stronge and have experience in tt well over 10years.
I noticed that there bh with the pimples or anti is very solid. So they can deal with my meagre attacks even if I try varying spin.
When I was using short pimples on the fh, I had a far easier time. I lacked the consistency and often losted to them in 5set games.

Using inverted i have to think more and try to out play them.

So constant slow topspin balls to there backhand works well, wait for a lose chop that has sailed a little high would initiate a stronger attack. The follow up on the attack is important. So I would have to smash or loop one with a greater angle, this a pop up will follow so I can try to put them away.

If you want you can try to go to there forhand... So fh to fh
Prepare for a rally there on its 50/50.

Its easier to play the angles, first wide to there fh and wide to there backhand . Not the other way as they have full control of the backhand when expected so they control that point.

A chop too me, I can try push the ball short. Emphasis close and no spin to there forhand. Often modern defenders can only semilob this as they are running in from far distance. Try to finish off this pop up.
