Hi AA, you backhand punch block (push) to the forehand down the line was devastating and fast, I will try to imitate next time I practice. Noticed that your thumb is way up on the back of the blade, is this where most the power comes from? Is the contact on the rise or earlier? Thanks, great skill, hate to face you in competition.

thanks! the thumb really is a bit more up, i hold the bat that way because it allow me to use my wrist more when i play that attack with my backhand, thats where the speed comes from, try to attack the ball at the highest point, blocks as soon as possible.

Chen Weixing also change grip when playing over the table shot.
Your BH is very nasty, fast and very low.
I notice you have a little problem with transition from BH to FH. I have this problem lately and try to remind myself to take time and turn shoulder before hitting FH.

That was a impressive performance even though it was a loss.. A friend of mine (whom I went to school with and also played at the same club with him) played the same tournament. He and his friend made 12th place.. My friend also played Habesohn and only made about 6 - 7 points per game.. Well, my friend only plays 2. Klasse in Vienna (as his club does not have a team in a higher league).

For those who are not familiar with Austrian table tennis, the level that his opponent plays would be probably in the high 2700 to about 2750 (he is #140 in the world) while Ahmed is probably about 2500 - 2650. I would put Ahmed approximately at the level of Barney J Reed. In the US, he would probably be strong enough for the National Team..

Would be great to have a more complete view of the match. If not for the last rally, one would have thought AA won the match pretty easily

Well if I didn't go and check on the ITTF site that Habesohn was #140 in the world I would not have believed it
It just shows me that AA's proactive ,punchblock, creative, attacking at the table backhand game is very effective against such a highly ranked player as AA made him look bad, slow and with poor timeing on many of the shots we saw.

yes I orginaly thought AA was winning 90% of the points so I was suprised at the end but well done to AA as I can learn from some of those backhand down the line winners

wait up folks! there are 4 habesohns that play tabletennis ;) their mother sonita, and her three sons. the habesohn i played was dominik habesohn (nr.17 austria), then there is matthias habesohn (nr.13) and daniel habesohn (nr.4 and 140 in the world). i won against daniel habesohn a couple of years ago, but that isnt the guy in the video, its his youngest brother, they are all very talented ;)

That is a great match by the way. A textbook example of how to play this style.

Respekt!

It's incredible how similar his backhand is to mine except that his is a lot more aggressive but the technique to take the ball off the bounce going forward looks exactly the same. He also seems to play at least 80% with the backhand.. I think that those are great videos especially for me to improve my style.. He plays what I play, just at a much higher level.. Shows me what is possible with that style..

Yes AA played very good, he won many points with deceptive serves and the opponent couldnt read them or overspun the ball too much . I liked the way AA played one a fast backhand deep and then fast down the line.
