Did you find the WD40 had any advantage over the others, HaggisV?

On DTTW there is a constant ad that pops up reading WD40, cleans Table Tennis rubbers and 2000+ other uses! I made a post on DTTW asking about this, (will dig up the link later), and most people didn't seem to think it would be very good.

No I don't think WD40 worked particularly well. That ad you see is an ad from Google... Google ads look for words on a webpage, and uses this to put up relevant ads... I think it simply found the word rubber, and matches it with WD40... does not mean it will work for a TT rubber at all...

What got you to try WD40 as one of the experiments?
And I wonder where WD40 got the idea that it was good for cleaning TT rubbers.

Could be. Don't know who else would give them it.
Is it even better than water?

I just applied a bit of expensive olive oil (27 dollars a bottle, outrageous!) to my old Flextra. I'm just using it as a test. ^_^ I hope it works, so I don't have to buy spinmax. I'm waiting for it to soak in, as I speak :D

I think it will work a little different ti spinmax. I doubt it makes a difference how expensive an olive oil you use...

Would you mind adjusting the size of yuor signature please... it's a little big and makes the threads harder to read... We encourage everyone to restrict it to 5 lines. You can put a lot on 5 lines, and can probably fit most of your current stuff in there.

The discussions on signature size is here:

Finished drying... Finally. The Flextra is unbelievably grippy, even more than that when it came in the package deal! Incredible. I'm considering using olive oil every month or two on my rubbers.

To clean my rubber I have been spitting on it a few times, then rubbing it back and forth across the bottom of my forearm(not much hair there). It evaporates within 15 seconds and seems to be working fine, leaving the rubber clean and as tacky as original. Does anyone else do this? Are there certain rubbers this is not ok for? I have been using this method on red Solcion and black Tackiness Chop, but only starting a few weeks ago.

Using it too often will start to effect the feel and weight of the rubber... it absorbs quite a bit of the oil every time you use it...

Probably not a good idea for long term, as the spit would probably contain some acid which will start to eat away your rubber over time...

Agreed. Saliva contains solvents that are used to preemptively break down food before reaching the stomach, so I would assume it's not very good for your rubber at all.
