I have played the umpire (he's from Western Australia)
When you look at Brian Berry he dosn't get low to return serves and he just does a straight arm smash from his hip at times while standing at his full height, it just shows you there are other successful ways of playing

Yeah I'm pretty sure someone said Greg had gone back to pips too.

Are you sure Greg plays with double inverted and not pips in this clip? I've chatted to player's who where there and claims he uses pips and if you look closely at the video, you will see that Greg twiddles a lot, which seems kind of pointless if he uses double inverted.

When I met him in NZ, he said he changed because chopping was too hard on his body, so with inverted he can stay at the table

hmmm now I think he was using pips (I think his twiddling) gave Brian openings.
I knew he had double inverted in Auckland so assumed he still had them ....so what was MNNB point again lol

After looking at it again, he probably is using LP, namely Stiga Detroyer. I had read he switched to inverted and stopped developing his LP/anti training course. Those weak topspins and the lack of disruption from the black side threw me off. He should switch to something more dangerous like Grass D.TecS for playing LP at the table.

Yup, I'm back on the LP, using my old familiar Stiga Destroyer OX.

This was a tough match with Brian - I think we were both pretty knackered by this stage after a looong week at the Vets. He got me in 5 in this match, and I got Brian in 5 in the teams event, so the honours were even.

Overall, with only 4 losses for the whole tournament (Brian, Walter Ly, Seref Bakanay, and a forfeit to Sharad, although I did beat Brian, Walter, and Seref as well in other matches), and a number 2 position in the O/40 Order of Merit, I didn't do too badly.

I'm not looking to go to Grass D Tecs - it's not what I'm looking for from my long pips, or my style. Destroyer suits me fine at the moment, although I may try out the D Tecs just for fun in the off season.

I was going to finish the coaching course at 6 months worth, but since I'm back on the LP I'll probably continue to add more free videos for members as I continue to play with them. I learned a bit more stuff at the Vets which I'll pass on to my guys.

Cheers,
Greg

Glad to hear you are going to continue with the videos. I can't remember now if I stopped at four or five, but I will subscribe once again.

I heard that more than half the players there used pips! That's quite a change from normal competition, where it might be 1 in 10.

In the Over 40's, very few players used long pips/anti, which surprised me. There was me and a gentleman using long pips on a penhold bat, and Sharad and Peter Lander using short pips, but other than that I don't think I played anybody else in the 40's Teams who used funny rubber. Oh, and Roy Newcombe using his anti with his own unique grip. Might have been a couple in the teams I didn't play, but overall everybody was pretty much 2 inverted.

In the 50's and above, it's a different story. The higher the age category, the more pips you seem to see.

It obviously takes many more years of experience, to be ready for pips. 8)
