very interesting pimples from dawei, has anyone had a chance to try these pimples.
The 388d-1 looks similar to pushblockers parrafin oil treatment.

The home treated version is more fragile than the ones you reference. I have three versions of the enlarged Dawei and one you mentioned is the smaller of the three. My guess is that it is stretched less, thus producing less fragility, but ?????

I cant see what advantages the large pimples would bring? Besides it being gimmicky.
Great for attacking but not as good as short pimples, also greater sensitivity to spin as surface area has increased.

Hi tOd,
How did you like them?

They didn't do anything for me, much more bouncy. How ever they are very soft and bent very easily so the ball coming off of them tends to be very erratic.

I can't quite figure why they made them at all... obviously it's not going to be legal to change the pip size, so why not just make a whole new rubber? If they ITTF got hold of a sheet, and found out that Dawei is making these, they'll probably lose approval for the 388d-1 sheets...

Dawei isn't make these as far as I understand, can anyone confirm?
Thanks,

I don't usually dig up old treads, but... my wife was in China recently and bought back one sheet of ox red of this Dawei 388D-1 large pips
Sorry no photos (I just never think) but I put the traditional sheet down next to the special large and everything is like 15% bigger, bigger square, bigger writing, and bigger pips
I then bounced 2 balls (1 each hand) onto the 2 rubbers which were placed on a table and the ball bounced maybe 15-20% higher on the large pips, I was going to just lets my friend try them but as we are in between rounds with interclub I thought why not try them on the robot, My initial reaction was it's speed (I current backhand rubbers are Mo Wang 11, Tupple 911 and spinlord Zeta? ) all in ox red and the special large pips was very bouncy if blocking high, so I experimented with
sideways push (low fast and skiddy),
chop block (also goes back low but seemed to behave funny then keep low
backhand loop, fantastic power but with a hard feeling, but easy to do
Chopping away from the table as long as you chop hard it has great backspin capabilities, you have to work the ball otherwise it is too bouncy, i.e play a shot
Straight bat return of serve I was thinking it would be bouncy but it goes back nicely without going high
push against push (sorry this was in some games last night) very easy once angle is adjusted for and it produced some very high pop ups (I won't talk about the opposition bruises )

The rubber was fun to use, Im unsure if it is legal as it is not the same rubber as the traditional 388D-1
I played 5 people (all lower level than me) but I could experiment at will without fear of loosing, the rubbers main handicap ( or my style lol) was taking a wide ball topspin on my backhand with a reactionary reach, the ball floated 3 meters away
So If you know how to use these pips or you are more aggressive then they will be magic, They would suit forehand long pip penholders

Ah... that's Old Man Huang's rubber. There's videos of him on YouTube somewhere, where he beats all the top amateurs in China. He plays Chinese penhold with short pips and his own brand Expanded Long Pips, and twiddles. Seems to confuse a lot of people. The videos are full of comments about him "cheating" and such. You apparently expand the rubber by soaking in olive oil (Extra Virgin not necessary), according to some people. I imagine it's not much good for salad afterwards....

My TTNPP version smelled like paraffin,it was as previously described bouncy, less effects and the control was not easy, it was also very difficult to stick onto the blade

I don't think the "Kingdom" signifies anything. Someone got his hands on several hundred sheets of Dawei OX and opened a company called Pips Kingdom.
