OOAK Table Tennis Forum

One of the things I like to read about the most here is when someone talks about how they do in their tourneys and leagues in posts over several days or weeks. Like..I tried rubber xx again last night and I beat 2 people I'd never beat before...I think next time I need to do more of xx and xxx... or just talking about how they do from tourney to tourney. I think it would be great to give users a place on their profile page or somewhere else to blog this type of stuff. Then other users could make comments to the blog posts.

For instance, I have a tourney coming up this weekend. I've been focussed on it for a year because last year I was pretty embarassed by my play. I have been working hard and also changed equipment and am ready to kick some serious butt at this tourney. There currently really isn't any place to write this kind of post and tell people my results afterward. I think I'd also like reading how other people who either play like myself and use similar equipment are doing from tourney to tourney. It would be fun to follow.

Currently some of this goes on in the forums, but there is usually little followup beyond a few days other than just a small number of posters. And if there is followup its very scattered.

Anyway, that's my idea.

One option that is not too hard to impliment, would be to create a new section (or a subsection of an existing section, if so which one?) and put all the personal threads/blogs there. Members can then put a link in their signature to their blog.

How does that sound?

If each blogger had their own thread, some could get quite messy if a reader primarily just wants to read the blogging without reading all the other users' comments. I've seen some threads here go way off topic and they are tough to wade through to get to the followup posts from the original poster. I would imagine some blogs would eventually get to over 100 pages this way. Or would each blog entry have it's own thread? Then a reader could do a search just for that author's posts in the blog forum? Would be unable to post a link in signature this way though. It could work but those are just my initial thoughts.

Some might like lots of comments, some may prefer to just make their own entries, for themselves and other to read. I guess you could state your preference in your first post.

It's probably best to have multiple blog entries within a single thread... and if it becomes too long you can always start a "part 2", which you can indicate in the title. You can have a link to "Part 1" in your signature, and "Part 1" can have the link to other parts.

Unless someone can see good reason not to, I'll impliment the section as proposed above.

I'd been running my blog on here under the general section for over 2 years and its only just reached 56 pages. I don't think there is much issue with how long the blog gets If anyone hangs around blogging long enough to out-blog me, then good luck to them
