Info blatantly ripped from MNNBs blog, here is Dickie Fleisher:

My analysis (not based on in-depth scanning of the videos, I must admit):

Looks like he is using a kind of loose variety of the Seemiller grip (index finger resting on the back, and middle finger hooked on the edge). His LP side is mostly up front, and he twiddles to use the inverted for serving mainly. His stroke is rarely on the backhand side, mostly forehand and middle (upright), so I guess his reach is similar to that of a traditional penholder (no RPB). Forehand focused stance (far to the left). Good footwork required.

Also, he is continuing the spin most of the time, "looping" against underspin and chop-blocking against topspin. Not a highly deceptive game, but the inherent "spin offset" of LP is still sufficient to confuse many opponents. He seems to use the pips more for control and for the ability to attack against underspin, not so much to consciously deceive the opponent through unusual spin properties.

Then again, that is also my main idea behind using LP, so I may be putting too much of my own mind into the analysis. If you think otherwise, please share your thoughts!

Hey, that's Bogeyhunter (forum member here) he's playing against.

Bogeyhunter plays P1-r 1.0 on the b/h and likes to chop with it most of the time. Not much chopping chance in this game...

Keme, please include material if known. According to MNNB's blog (I flollowed your link) it's P2 OX. Very interesting. I wouldn't have been able to guess this. I didn't think P2 would give virtually any underspin when passively blocking against topspin. It obviously does.

I'm not seeing Fleisher do anything but attack or block on his f/h. Not even a f/h chop block. He seems to be always after either a hit or a soft block against anything. I've bought most of the "P" range but not P2, this is inspiring me to buy a sheet for fun.

Well he seems to be holding his own against BH...not a bad effort for the way he's using the rubber.

P2 has natural reversal, it doesn't really loose any with 1.2mm sponge over ox so you really are better off using it with sponge. I didn't think much of it Knox but its excellent in 1.2mm.

I think the moral of the story is that if we see underspin coming at us, we should be looking for a way to attack it with the pips.

There is a 2000-2100 player around here that plays that style, and I only win sets against him if my chops are so low that he doesn't dare attack, and my FH smash is working better than his blocking.

Bought a sheet of P2 in 1.2 for fun.

I'm curious to see how I go with if on my f/h

(I love inverted on my b/h, but so far hate OX pips on my f/h, yet like twiddling...)

IMHO P3a was an unknown little gem, P4 is amazing, and now P2 might turn out to be far more interesting than some 20? year old pip ought to be. Is TSP the greatest pip maker ever? (The frictionless craze started with modified versions of their pips apparently.)

That raises a good question: after reading about that P2 rubber, it does appear that it is a good LP hitter, kind of like 837. So....about the deception, I think that Bogey Hunter is missing a lot with his FH attacks because Dickie is hitting some fairly fast knuckleballs. Is that the case? Then if so, can knuckleball shots be called deception?

The P2 pips are wider and shorter... giving them more control but less reversal. I found it to be very easy to use, and it almost hits like short pip.

I have just seen some of the videos with this guy.

And this is actually almost one the most
deceptive players I have seen lately.
And I think it is because he turns side-spin
instead of the normal back-spin top-spin way.

Dr. N actually do the same with hies SP on FH.

Cheers

I love hitting with short pips, but hate trying to loop underspin, or even open well against underspin with them.

Maybe I found my f/h short pip?

Very interesting and strange style. Forehand LP and even a Winshield Wiper variant.

Have a look at some of the old books where they describe the topspin drive with hard rubber, or watch some of the old videos of Reisman on Youtube. Same thing with OX pips - it's just hard rubber. The correct stroke has a very short backswing and a followthrough above the head. Quite different than the topspin drive with sponge. The racket path is concave. The more backspin, the more open the racket face.
