I picked up these to blades a while ago and thought I should leave some comments on them. Bear in mind: I’ve never written a blade review before and my experience with different blades is very limited :) .

Overview
The blades: Darker 7P-2A.DF, a 7-ply hinoki blade for defense. Nittaku Haneyoshi, 5 ply wood + 2 ply Kevlar defensive blade. I’m currently playing with the Butterfly Joo Se-Hyuk so some comparisons will be made with that blade.

First Impression
As soon as I open the package I’m struck with the feel of quality and the nice finish of the Darker blade. The blade is slightly oversized (similar in size to Haneyoshi and Joo) and the ST handle is comfortable to hold (104mm x 23mm according to IRUIRU). The Nittaku blade has a slightly rougher finish but still looks good. The ST-handle is about the same length and width as the Darker handle (102mm x 22mm) but a little thinner, and doesn’t feel as comfortable in my hand as the other two, I can imagine people having trouble with this.

Subjective evaluation
I haven’t compared the two blades with the same rubber on FH but I tried using TSP Curl P1-R 0.6mm on BH on both blades.
Hitting with the Darker, I’m instantly surprised with the soft feeling of the blade, the dwell time of the ball is much longer than I am used too. I feel like I have more control than my Joo. Speed wise, I think it’s a bit slower but I don’t have any problems generating enough speed for my play. Block, push and chop on the BH works great.

The Haneyoshi on the other hand is a harder and stiffer blade, also stiffer than the Joo, and it feels faster. In regards to control, I think it’s similar to the Joo. On the FH I feel like I can generate more or the same amount of speed without any extra effort and the throws are lower than the Joo. I feel like I get more spinreversal on Haneyoshi than the Darker, but the feedback/vibrations is not as good.

Last remarks
I like both blades but for different reasons. The Darker has amazing feel and good control and is fast enough, but I’m considering putting on a Curl P1-R with a thicker sponge to get a bit more speed. The Haneyoshi has a stiff but good feel and is faster without compromising on the control. The handle is a little bit thin.
(FH rubber on the DARKER was TSP Triple Power Shop sponge 1.3mm, and Nittaku Moristo DF 1.8mm on the Haneyoshi)

wow, great review! great use of pictures too. I especially appreciate it because I'm also using the joo right now, but have had my eye on that darker blade. Compared to the joo, would you say that the Darker blade is more flexible or is it around the same stiffness?

Thank you!

I would say that the Darker blade is more flexible.

Great review (x2  )

I hope you don't mind if we keep asking you some questions, especially those looking to purchase the blades you just reviewed. :)

You got these from Iruiru, right?

Thanks! Yes I got those at Iruiru. Worked out fine.. I had to wait a week before they shipped b/c they just had ran out of stock on the Darker blade. But they kept me updated on the order status and when it finally shipped it got here (to Sweden) in just a few days.

have you got a new red 0,6mm P1-R? I have a spare 1mm P1-R If you like to trade it

I also got my 7P-2A.DF from iruiru and they didn't have stock, I don't think this is a usual buy.

I've tried it so few sessions, I think I've got some withdrawal syndrome (doctor, am I addicted to TT?). I also had those first impressions, extreme quality construction, sooooft touch and long dwell time. If I compare it with my previous balsa blade, it has even more dwell but it's not as bouncy so the control is superb. I don't know how they acknowledged that in an all-hinoki blade, but I fell in love with this blade.

The Darker sounds great. Looks like a very serious blade too! Like it means no-nonsense business. Whereas the Nittaku looks like it would suitably be matched with a clown-suited TT player LOL. I do like Kevlar blades however, so I am sure I would like the Nittaku.

Great pics, and nice review. Hope you enjoy playing around with them. Nothing like new TT equipment! Especially when you find you like it. :D

I find the feel of Nittaku Haneyoshi very good, not stiff. It has a medium feel, great control, and well balanced. It solves the problem of lack of attack for me. I could attack when I play a lower level player with it and still chop well against a higher level player with a lot of variations. But I prefer an oversized blade and it's not. :-(

Do you do much looping? How would you say these blades compare to the JSH blade in that area?

Sorry, looping is not my strong side, and I have not evaluated it thoroughly but I can say that I found myself not overshooting the table that often and having a little more control forehand looping with the Haneyoshi compared to the Joo Se-Hyuk. But I use different rubbers as well so I think the lower throws are more a contribution by the rubber rather then the blade.

Roundrobin in another thread viewtopic.php?f=43&t=26948 says Nittaku Haneyoshi is slightly slower than Butterfly JSH, but koolof at the beginning of this thread says the contrary.
Anyone else who has tried both want to make a comparison?

I have: Innershield, Joo Se Hyuk, 7P2ADF, Haneyoshi and Aigis. I am a player of modern defense with two inverted rubber, so I do not know the behavior of the blades with pimple or antitop. I tried the blades with Andro Roxon 330 and Rasant Grip on the right and Donic Cup, Dr Neubauer Special Defence, LKT Pro XP and Xiom Yanus DF on the reverse. My impressions: SPEED : Joo Se Hyuk and 7P2ADF are very similar (Darker with more control), Haneyoshi a bit slower but with more control and flexibility, and this allows you to cut more easily. Innershield very slow and with a lot of control and flexibility, similar to Aigis but with a slingshot effect that allows only accompanied to generate more speed. From zero to ten: Joo 9+, Darker 9 Haneyoshi 8.5, Innershield 6+, Aigis 6. Best compromise of speed and control: Haneyoshi.
