I have played with 05 for while, but catapult seems to be lost and softer shots are too easy for the opponent. And clearing the net is more problematic. And the high throw in blocks and stuff is not so good. And feeling is bit mushy. On the other hand spin, serves, pushing and grip is great when new. Propably 05 will play better with stiffer and faster blade, but I have hard time finding good blade for my BH, and BH suitability is more important.

I haven't played much in summer, so it's not so easy to evaluete equipment, as the play is full of mistakes anyway.

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting the donic defplay senso, but I don't know if I should choose classic or the normal version. If I remember correctly, the classic has koto plies with a balsa core whereas the normal is anigre? ( I'm not very good with blade specifications) I'm using a premade carbon racket that vibrates quite a lot, it is made for recreational players, but I am taking table tennis seriously. The reason why I ask this question, and mention the details above, is because... well, partly because of the EJ virus (lol) and because I want to know how hardness and flex, speed and blablabla etc. affects how i play, and the rubbers I choose. I am currently deciding on Bty Feint Long 2 black 0.5 for my backhand, and I am deciding to stick to buying it. I am still speculating my choice for a forehand rubber. For offensive play, I almost never do brush loops or any kind of loops, i drive and smash and flat hit; only do counterloops. I'm not worried about my backhand, as i know that feint long 2 is slightly forgiving and my backhand is my strong point; im worried about my forehand rubber, because I need to know how hard the sponge needs to be, I need it to be able to drive and smash (when needed), I need control close to the table for pushing and receiving serves, and i need to be able to serve with decent spin at the least; obviously there is no magic rubber out there, blablabla, I've seen it all, but any help will be greatly appreciated. I got carried off, lol, so back to the point.

Should I get classic or normal defplay senso?
how does each blade affect my current rubber choice?
should I get the more flexy but ironically harder normal defplay, or the softer but ironically stiffer classic defplay?
Which blade did you guys feel had more control in placement and the short game, as well as chopping?
which blade has less of a mushy feeling?
I could go on forever, but these are the only questions I have. I'm really really really hoping for specific answers, now that I've decided on one of the following defplays.

Flip a coin - it does not matter if you get Classic or Senso (I have the latter), they are both DEF blades. Or get a JSH if you are more into smashing, as leatherback told you in another thread. I am dead serious - you've been playing TT only for 4 months and you have 0 experience with LP. You should not be thinking about blade composition, flex, stiffness, sponge hardness, anigre vs. koto etc. It's all 'blablabla' at this point - you don't have the game yet.

So, don't overthink it, get a defensive setup and spend good 3 months with it at the minimum. Then see if defensive style is for you.

P.S. What happened to the idea of learning proper strokes first with double inverted setup as leatherback seemingly convinced you to do couple of weeks ago?

You could get the def blade (JSH/Defplay) and use both inverted first. Lkt pro xp+Yinhe 9000. Then after awhile if you still like to experience LP, change one rubber with LP.

There's a guy, A level, in my club playing modern def with both inverted using JSH blade, Yinhe 9000 + Tibhar Super Defence. He mainly chop and hit/smash, with occasional loop.

Just noticed I started this thread 5 years ago,since then the Tenergies have been the best option for me on this blade,I like the higher throw of 05 v 05 fx and the extra zip,however the 05 speeds up the ox pips compared to 05 fx but I can live with that to maximise f/h attack
Dan if you do go down the pips route it will take a lot of practice,patience and time to learn,after 6 years using them I`m still learning new stuff and how to introduce it effectively into matches,with only 4 months of experience maybe too soon for you ...

Because chop and block return speed somewhat dependent to incoming ball speed, that means

Speed of player inverted strokes does play a part.

As a new player, I would not get a JSH. And I would DEFINITELY not put double inverted on it, unless you are 250 lbs of pure muscle. That's a heavy set up.

The defplay with lighter inverted is doable, I played with Reflectoid on one side with some success.

If I were you I'd go with the normal defplay, avoid the classic. Not a huge difference, but the senso is a better blade IMO.

Hi guys, I am also considering the DefPlay with dual inverted... My goal is to develop a more spinny forehand and backhand loop, but at the same time I am also learning to chop with long pips on backhand. I have been using my coaches Matsushita Pro for learning defense.

I am also looking at Yasaka Sweden Classic and Sweden Defensive. I will probably stick with Yinhe Moon Pro rubbers, relatively hard 38deg. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

The Defplay has very coarse Basswood central plies and is fairly thin at 5.5mm,I feel there is an effect on ox pips due to energy transfer from the f/h rubber which was easily noticeable when I tried 2 set ups in the same session,same pips 388d ox ,the pips were noticeably slower with 05fx and was highlighted even more when I had Slice 40 on f/h,of course it could be the differing blades but I believe others on here have seen this phenomenon.Strangely this was less of a problem today with p1r ox which must have better dampening ability so there could be a Fairytale ending after all

i have 3 cut down grubba pros and a defplay thats also cut down.
They play similar and have narrow handles.
im using the defplay with best anti in 2mm and tac c 1.9.
amazing blade with these rubbers-anti gets back all serves and blocks perfect.
tac c is slowish but has great control.

Im testing other stuff but always going back to this blade.
Its amazing for blocking off the bounce with best anti in 1.8-hard tospins and aggressive shots go back with the anti.
i also use soft short pips and the overall control is superb.
im keeping my eyes peeled for another one (second hand)
