As I mentioned in this section, after Christmas we needed to close the OOAK table tennis Shop for about 3 weeks. Although this was for family reasons, it also gave me an opportunity to update the shop website, and do some re-organisation, which was well overdue, because, as usual, I never got around to it before. :( So, what I did was;

1. I optimised the site further for speed, for both PC and tablets. I think this is important as about 40% of traffic comes from tablets/phones. I think the shop website would have to be one of the fastest loading sites anywhere, which should benefit everyone.

2. I also made the site run fully on https, whereas before it was only running https for secure areas. This is supposed to improve security with the bonus of also running a little faster.

3. I had a re-think about what the shop actually specialises in. I think where our specialty lies is in custom table tennis bats, as well as the less common table tennis rubbers, particularly pimple rubbers and antispin.
So with this in mind, I re-organised the menus and also the related article to make this information easier to find. I added some brief explanations to the different categories, for the benefit of people that don't know much about table tennis equipment. I also removed a lot of clutter and links, to make things easier to find and read.

4. I added a table tennis shop blog. Why you ask... you're already running this forum, and your reviews blog? True, but on both these sites I make a great effort to be independent and unbiassed, and don't feel right about writing about a new item in the shop that I find interesting, because it will feel like a marketing exercise. For the shop blog I can write anything related to shop items, and if that's what people are interested in, they can read it. If they're looking for independent reviews or articles, they can check out the other sites.

There is still more I'd like to do, e.g. filters to search for items of specific properties, like all the rubbers that come in 1.0mm. That's not an easy thing to implement, so I have not got around to it yet... but will add it when I get a chance.

Anyway, if you've got any comments or suggestions for the site, something that you like, or would find useful, I'd love to hear them.

Hi haggisv,

Most blogs have a date associated with them. Even when I read more about one of the topics, there was no date to be found. Is this by accident or by design?

Well spotted, I agree that's worthwhile, so I've added it. :up: :up: :up:

Hi Haggisv, in relation to your future filters, you might want to have a look at www.dartscorner.uk.co They have a tool called darts selecta where you tick various boxes including weight, length, price, material and it comes up with a list of items that match your criteria.

Might give you some ideas of what you could adapt for your site. I've found it really handy over the years.

similar to that darts filter is the filter down the left side on, eg http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/au/en/tyres

eg, for these tyres, can filter on size, tyre width, brand, colour, etc etc.

Thanks Silver, appreciate it. :up:

The one for a TT shop is going to be a little more complicated, as there are so many variables. :( Still I agree it's going to make it a whole lot easier to find stuff, so it's worth doing. ;)
