Blade: diode v
FH: vega asia
BH: p4 0.5
Just received a new version of the regular VKM:

- It comes with the new packaging, like the VKMO
- Made in Japan like the original
- Same ply construction and thickness
- The handle is ~1mm thinner: from the original 23.8mm to 22.8mm
- Bouncing a ball without rubbers produces a higher pitch than the original
- The measured blade frequency is higher, 1150Hz vs 1070hz of the original
- Same weight: ~87g

Iā€™m excited to test this blade, it might be just the normal variation between blades but it seems like I got a slightly faster version of my original VKM maintaing the same weight

Be sure to post your thoughts here. Personally, I'm not a fan of the redesign. I like the natural wood finish on handles!

Blade: Koji Matsushita
FH: Tibhar MX-S Max
BH: Yasaka Rising Dragon 2.0
The variation between the new and old blades in this post are less than the variation of my 2 VKM blades I have now...same model. I bet the actual differences are just a color and handle change.

Like you're saying I think it's just the variation between different wood pieces.
I personally think the redesign is just graphics, logos, etc. not playing characteristics. And agree with Japsican, no two blades are the same.
I have THREE different VKMO versions, all approximately 93-95g.

1) Old box, old blade design
2) New box, old blade design
3) New box, new blade design.

All three play a bit different (one is faster, another is noticeably slower and hollow, etc) despite being very very close in weight.

I got 2 offensive and quite similar. I'm not playing with them as I lost control on defense. Excellent on offense with my chinese rubber. Anyone want them ? They are for sale.

Victas have confirmed that the difference is only cosmetic, the blade design has not changed at all. Personally I prefer the old design as well, but once you put the rubber on, there's not much difference of course. ;)

I had a chance to play with it today. It plays very similar to my old one. Slightly harder and more hollow, same flexibility and speed.

An update:

I tried this blade (new VKM) a few times in the last three months and I always end up with the same conclusion: it plays good, like my old VKM but it feels horrible, way more hollow than the old model! It has very noticeable "bad" vibrations, almost like the bad Stigas.

Another thing I noticed is that in hard FH shots it flexes more than the old model, making it harder to control, I found myself playing less aggressively to avoid this unpredictable shots.

Is there any blade on the stiffer side like the VKMO with the speed and softness of the VKM?

Blade: VKMO (FL)
FH: Gambler Volt-T black
BH: TSP Spectol Blue 1.5 red
I grabbed a second VKMO a while back when Westchester TTC's store had the old design on sale. I really prefer the aesthetics to the new design, even if they play identically.

Did the Yuto Muramatsu blade (which as I recall is just a VKMO with a bleached outer ply and a different colored handle) get a cosmetic redesign, too?

Yeah, same bland crap as the other redesigns!

The new vkm versions are for all the prior vkm version. The one in the pictiure is the standard vkm. Not the offensive one.

There is always variation between blades of the same models. If you've got 5 of the same model blades, you'll always have a favourite. The rubbers are another variable, they're not going to be identical, and they're not going to have an identical glue job.
