Is it easier to create topspin with Explosion than KO Pro?

My concern with 1.2mm is that like Keiler in 1.2mm the blade tends to come into play when blocking hard shots due to the sponge bottoming out which can lead to loss of control.

Explosion is really not a spinny rubber. Hitting with it is very fast and flat, with good sink. That will create problems for your opponent. If you're looking for a short pip that can generate some spin, Explosion would not be for you.

Thanks. I naturally want to try and topspin a bit on my BH having come from inverted. The difficult bit is to find a rubber that will enable some topspin and still have a good degree of sink/disruptive effect when blocking or flat hitting. keiler does this at least with the old sponge but is very limited in other areas in particular passive play

Might look at Firestorm 1.5mm or maybe Hellcat 1.5mm

Have you tried Aggressor? It was a bit uncontrollable for me, but it was pretty deceptive when used properly and it was a little spinny, at least in my opinion.

Did try it in 1.5mm but as you say difficult to control. For those that can tame it it can produce near unreturnable shots. My so so technique in BH is a bit too inverted style with long movements whilst rubbers like Aggressor seem to need much shorter faster movements from the wrist and some LP technique.

Hi together,

I want to switch from Glanti to short Pips on my BH. My weakness is reading spinny serves from my opponent...
Can you tell me how susceptible the Explosion is againt Spin in Serves?
Perhaps you can tell me what way/technique is the best to receive serves? Short, spinny, etc.?

Many thanks in advance
Maeglin

I m thinking to use explosion for penhold.serve backspin and lift attack ? Or its hard to attack with loop against backspin?

In my opinion it's much better for blocking and flat hitting. I don't think that you'll get a lot of spin on your serves. Lifting back spin is possible, but again you probably won't get a lot of spin on it. You might want to consider one of the more spin oriented short pips like Victas VO>102 or Friendship 802-40 or Yasaka Rakza PO.

A lower grip short or medium pip is actually very good against backspin the difference being it is more of a lifting stroke than an inverted rubber loop action. The resulting shot being fast and low and difficult for your opponent to then do a controlled push or chop back again as they are placed under pressure. Very effective against long pips as you do not give them much topspin to reverse

As a long pips player, those types of players, who can use short pips in the manner you describe, are some of the toughest opponents. I ran into a guy at the tournament I played in May who had shorts pips on his backhand and he just kept pounding me to my backhand, and while I was running around like crazy to try to get on the forehand (I don't twiddle) he still beat me.

I was thinking to spin the ball only for opening and smash .what about control?

I thought control was pretty good. Mind you, I hadn't been using short pips very long when I tried it. But compared to other short pips I was trying at the time, I thought it was good. I thought it had better control than Aggressor, also from Dr. Neubauer.

I'm sorry, I honestly don't recall, and I don't have them anymore. I've gone back to inverted on forehand and long pips on backhand.
