Does anyone believe that Xu Xin has not yet fully unleashed to the max the C-pen RPB power that is Penhold yet ? That there is actually a lot more to come ? And the rest of the Penhold squad in China are going to powerup DragonBall Z style ?

I always believed in XX RPB becoming deadly and puzzled for a very long (no pun intended) time why he never did that ?

Korea Open finally should open eyes of anybody who was a doubter about Chinese penhold ( c-pen ) and the newer twiddler J-pen rackets ( by which J-pen can play RPB ) ... penhold players are not a joke ever!

Xu Xin dominated with RPB BH rallies. His RPB looks very "effortless" and when you see the extra effort in the stroke it is waaaaaay powerful.

Xu Xin ! I Believe !

?? Why not post a video to show what you mean?

Watching this, I'm not really sure what you mean. Xu Xin's main weapon has always been his forehand, and he uses it to great effect here, which was most of the time. Yes, he does make a few great RPB shots but I don't see how they're much different from what I've seen before. Ma Long's backhand is still far stronger and more versatile than Xu Xin's RPB.

Some time ago there were people posting that Xu Xin was in trouble and on his way out.. and I pointed out that, for goodness sakes guys, he WAS RANKED #3 IN THE WORLD AT THE TIME.. I mean, really, some people.

  All the videos are already in the TT channels :-D

Just excited to see XX play at another level no one has seen him play RPB BH-to-BH rallies before at least not to the clear and obvious extent at Korea Open, CTTSL and now in Australia Open.

Anyways, I wish more Penholders would actually discuss their own personal techniques and strengths and weaknesses and compare to how they can learn from watching the pros and what we can do to adapt at amateur and beginner levels and try to get the same level of coaching and analysis going on with C-Pen same as Shakehand! :-D

This arrived in my mailbox this morning...

Very interesting indeed. Xu Xin uses his forehand from deep in his backhand corner, but when Franziska starts moving the ball further and further to Xu Xin's backhand, instead of using his RPB, he starts fishing with his conventional backhand.

Xu Xin's main weapon has always been his FH power loop. His improved BH helps him to return some rallies before stepping aside for a FH attack.

So far in the penholder community I don't see anyone with a FH comparable to Xu Xin unfortunately.

Zheng Peifeng and Zhao Zhihao ha ve RPB comparable to Wang Hao's consistency. But their FH is average and lose power from mid distance.

Wong Chunting has fair powerful FH. His RPB has improved over the last year. But his foot work is no where near Xu Xin.

Xue Fei is probably the most all rounded. His RPB is probably the best. His FH has improved significantly over the last year. Yet he lacks the tactic and variation that render a player world-class. I hope he will wake up and change one day.

Xu Haidong a young Chinese boy. He is very tall like Xu Xin. He has very good foot work and a FH very similar to Xu Xin. He's nowhere as famous as the other penholders. But I feel he has the most potential. I hope he will work hard and gain more attention from the CNT.

Xu Xin is very tall?

Wikipedia claims he's 181 cm tall which is more than average Chinese men's height of 169.5 cm (again, according to Wiki).

5 foot 11 inches. Not very tall by European standards but taller than the average Chinese, apparently. A LOT shorter than Yao Ming, of course... and shorter than Manika Bhatra..

I agree, not very tall in the European standard.

My point is that to be able to launch Xu Xin type FH power loop height is an advantage.

Well, he IS quite a bit taller than some.. Ito Mima for instance.. I spent four hours in an airplane yesterday and I was truly thankful that I am of moderate height. Being tall sucks if you have to fly...

It seems like Xu Xin’s RPB has improved quite a bit lately and he’s been a bit more aggressive sticking closer to the table. I hope he can improve it even more and implement it as more of a weapon. It seems like he’s not afraid to use it. I’m loving it!

Good golly gee... see who's Number One in the rankings this week.

Ma Long's dropped to #5, Harimoto's #4, Falck is #9, Mizutani's hanging on at #13, and this week's hot news (Lin Yun-ju) is #16.
