Here's the short version:

Platonov is really good against defense. Does everything right. I once saw him butcher Joo. Can't find the videos of this game anymore, though.

A curious moment at 0:30. Ma Te smashes into the net but hits some sign or plate that's attached to the net, and the ball lands on the table.
Now, I'm wondering whether the sign (plate) actually impacted the ball's trajectory, i.e. would the ball have landed on the table if it wasn't there.

I din't know if he hits the sign directly, or it falls because he hit the top of the net.

Looks like a direct sign hit to me, but you're right, the video probably doesn't allow to tell one or the other with 100% confidence.

The match versus Aruna is incredible. The forehand shots from Aruna are really powerful

I remember that match too, proplably on ITTV only.

Looks like MA Te plays better againt very agressive players like chinese or like pavel that keeps attaking all the time, and when he plays againt european control game he have a lot more hard time.

No, it certainly was on YT, but it probably isn't anymore due to the ITTF going after channels who were distributing short versions of the game.

Next match is against Zhao Zhihao on a non-streamed table unfortunately. I think I recall them meeting in phase one of the marvellous 12 tournament this year and Zhao Zhihao winning.

From Bulgaria Open 2019.
Couldn't use another lens so it's rather wide.
Th match is quite long even in this short form.

Ma Te is playing really well this tournament. If he can get past Wong Chun Ting, he looks to have a couple of favorable matchups afterwards given the fact that he's 2-0 so far against Pitchford. That's a big 'if', though!

WCT, just like Pitchford, has a pretty bad track record vs defenders. I think the way is open for Ma Te to go deep in this tournament. I would say Calderano is the biggest obstacle, but let's take one match at a time. Next match will be streamed.

yeah, one match at a time. He looked pretty strong in the last tournament too, but lost to Aruna. And Aruna is neither a top 10 nor does very well against defenders. WCT is likely a strong favorite here. I enjoy watching Ma Te and like his style very much but always think of him as a top 50 player. This explains his ups and downs and him not making it to the main draw consistently.

Semi finalist of the China National Championships a top 50 player? He might be that now, but he must have the talent to become a top 10 player easily.
