Dear President Weikert, We are table tennis players of Northern Cyprus, at the age from 6 to 80 years old.Our Federation was not accepted as a member to ITTF,so we table tennis lovers of Northern Cyprus have never been accepted any ITTF Tounaments for more than 50 years. We know you are a busy person but if you find time and read the table tennis story of Northern Cyprus we will be glad. Ever since the early 1920's ,table tennis has been a very popular indoor sporting activity among the Turkish Cypriots. At first the game was played in such places as Scout Premises at the numerous Turkish club premises.Later on the game was taken up in the Turkish Cypriot high schools.
During the periot of 1945-1950 'Local International Tournaments'did take place with the participation of Turkish Cypriot,Greek Cypriot,Armenian Cypriot and British teams taking part.
During the years 1950-1990 Table tennis continued to be very popular among the Turkish Cypriots.
The Republic of Cyprus Constitution provided for EQUAL represantation and indeed articles 87,89 and 108 provided for separate sporting establishments. As a result the Greek Cypriots did establish their own table tennis federation in 1963 -without consulting and/or approaching the Turkish Cypriot side. The Turkish Cypriots table tennis federation was estblished in 1971.Application for affilation to the ITTF by the Turkish Cypriots was turned down for no valid reason ;whilest Th Greek Cypriots were affiliated to the ITTF in 1973 as an Asian Country -instead of as European Country.
The Constutition of ITTF provides for the affiliation of more than one national table tennis federation from one and in the same country.
In Northern Cyprus the population is comprised exclusively of Turkish Cypriots and there are no Greek Cypriots involved in any of the Turkish Sporting Establishments-and indeed in the Northern Cyprus Table Tennis Federation there are no Greek Cypriots.
Under the Contitution of the now defunct Republic of Cyprus which the Greek Cypriots still consider to be in force ,no table tennis Federation of Cyprus has the RIGHT TO REPRESENT TO THE OTHER COMMUNITY-ie either the Turkish or Greek Cypriot Table tennis Federation.
Dear President Weikert,
I am ready to inform you with detailed information. This is only summary.50 years passed without joining to the World table tennis under ITTF umbrella. We table tennis players of Northern Cyprus do not want to wait another 50 years. Please do something to join us to he World table tennis.
Best Regards
Fadil Olguner

I suppose if the Taiwanese are allowed to participate, albeit without the use of their national flag and the actual name of their country ("Republic of China") I don't see why some arrangement cannot be made for the Northern Cypriots to likewise be allowed to participate in international sports. I wonder what the status of the Palestinians are in the ITTF, I'm sure there are a lot of players in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

No Haggisv.Because of the War in 1974 Cyprus divided two parts,North and South.ITTF accepted South as a member and left North alone. So althought the poleticians were responsible for the War table tennis players of North punished. We want Mr.Weikert to find solution.Perhaps ITTF give us permission to enter some ITTF events until Cyprus problem solved.

No Unfortunetely no..Cyprus Republic has two communities Turks and Greeks. In 1963 Turks and Greeks began to fight with each other. The population of Greek community three times more than Turks. So at the end Greeks won and became the owner of the Repuplic. In 1974 Cyprus divided two.ETTU and ITTF recognise only South.North Cyprus Table tennis players is not responsible for this fight as I have written above. We want to play table tennis with friends all round the World. We say let's leave poletics to poleticians.50 years passed after this isolation and we say that's enough.Until Cyprus problem will solve we want to enter some tournaments of ITTF.That's all we want.

Interesting, Republik Kosovo has gained official recognition by IOC in the year 2014, and Serbia protested strongly against.
Republic Kosovo got recognition by ITTF and Serbia did not mind it a bit. It looks like ITTF consulted with Serbia on this matter prior to making the decision to let Kosovan be represent within ITTF family.

First of all, you have to establish national governing body like Table Tennis Assotiation of Northern Cyprus/ and then you should apply for ITTF membership.

Thank you friend. We have founded our Table tennis Federation since 1971.We have tournaments ect.We have clubs ect.We applyed ITTF membership twice but not accepted because South side of Cyprus are strongly against our membership because of poletical reasons. We table tennis players of Northern Cyprus leave poletics to poleticians .The only thing we want is to join to the World table tennis Thanks
