I just realized that it has been about 2 years since my last post to the forum!!! I do continue to follow the form on most days, and practice table tennis 2-3 times per week.

I have a question about removing glue from one of my Joo Saehyuk blades. I purchased my third Joo Saehyuk blade last year. The seller attached rubbers to both sides of the blade for me. I removed a sheet of rubber from one side, and have had a very difficult time trying to remove the glue. I have tried to remove the glue by rubbing with my finger, which has worked fine every time in the past. I have also tried a very fine grain sandpaper, but that removed just a bit of glue. The amount of glue still on my blade is too much to ignore, since the new sheet of rubber I would apply (Tenergy 80-FX) would not be smooth.

At this point I am not sure what to do. I have read online that acetone could solve this problem. But I would to double check first.

Also, when I ordered the blade I requested that it be sealed. Could this glue problem imply that the blade was not sealed?

Take a thick wad of paper towel and rub. For very stubborn areas, a few drops of lighter fluid helps soften up the glue.

Scrub and rub using a big rubber eraser. It aids in getting the glue off. Painstaking job! We have all been there at some point.

Lighter fluid works i've also used meths,the eraser sounds a good idea

Might this actually be a gluesheet that you are trying to remove?

I would like to thank everyone for their helpful suggestions.

I ended up removing the glue from my Joo Saehyuk blade by using (1) nail polish remover, (2) very fine grain sandpaper, and (3) an eraser. Any combination of two didn't work, I needed to use all three. It took some effort, but now I can add a new sheet of rubber to the blade.

That seller must have used some serious glue. I usually find that normal latex glue rubs off the blade with just the palm of my hand or fingers. My blades are sealed which might make it a bit easier.

Yup. Some more evidence of what I have been saying about Nail Polish Remover helping. Recently I had to water-based PU-varnish a blade with 2 layers due to my inept hasty rubber removal.

These days I will always use Nail Polish Remover due to all my experience using it before ( hubris and getting excited to glue new rubbers without remembering my errors from the past ) knowing that it pays to be patient and careful removing rubbers from blades no matter how confident I feel about it.

Did you ask the seller what he used?

I wonder if it wasn't Chinese glue sheets... The European ones (Donic, XIOM) are OK, there's a weak side and a strong side. The strong side glues to the rubber, the weak side to the blade. Makes it easy to remove the rubber from the blade, leaving no residue. Besides, the rubber than then be easily moved to another blade without the need for any additional glue. If you apply one of these upside-down, though.... As they say, RTFM.

Funny thing - nail polish remover will work, and my guess it's the acetone in it that is effective and there are types that are labeled 100% acetone (available at most hardware stores, I know Lowes carries it). One other trick that I learnt on another forum was to put another layer of a better water based glue and then let it dry. Once it is dry, just peel it off. It should take with it the older glue build up too.

Ronson Lighter Fluid works pretty well, too. Dissolves rubber more aggressively than acetone does. I used it a while back when removing a stubborn sheet of rubber that was pulling up wood fibers from the blade (someone else's glue job, not mine). Dripping some between the blade and the rubber softened the glue and allowed for easy removal without further damage.
