If I recall correctly, when I called the timeout I basically went over to my team mates and said "I'm calling this just to have a rest!" - then we laughed and discussed what serve to do, and whether to attack or play tight. But I was pretty tired by that stage, as you can see it was a pretty long match.

I've only flicked through a bit of the match, but you can see my dodgy forehand chopping technique quite well in the this video, where my form is bad, and I struggle to chop heavy consistently with the inverted. I've since fixed those problems up, as I've mentioned recently on the About.com website.

I just posted this video since I didn't really have a decent chopping video of my play on YouTube, and I knew this match wasn't a bad example of my play back then, and I had it on hand since I'd been doing some analysis of my old form while searching for a solution to my bad forehand chop technique, and comparing my form to other choppers.

For those interested, I think I was using the Tackiness Chop 1.1mm red on the FH, Stiga Destroyer OX on the backhand, on my Matsushita Pro Special blade.

yes I watched that game, and later on got to play Greg in the over 40's round robin, I thought about tactics and then decided when in doubt lash out, and I went for a hard hit every time it came to my forehand and I won the first game 11-7 or 11-8, a few people strarted to watch but then drifted away when I was down 5-1 or so in the next lol, I did score many great points but Greg was great at changing tactics and I must say he has the most legal serves compared to the rest of us oldies

I just wonder if any one there got to film my local hero Kheng Yee La, he immigrated from Malaysian I think in the 70's to Wellington NZ played alot down there, then came to Auckland and was one of the best here in the 90's but stopped again for 10 years, KYL was born with only one real hand and he is currently 61-62 years old and using Genius 2mm forehand and D-Techs black OX backhand, but he has the most amazing touch shots with the D-Techs and able to push short skid long, stop block the meanest loops , play mid court or chop like a Korean if he has to, apart from that he has some deceiving side kicker or side stopper serves, the most beautiful footwork and a tidy on target forhand loop,
I tended to talk to Greg when he was busy blogging or having a quiet seat to relax ( sorry about that Greg) and Greg commented that "KYL's game was indeed something to watch" or similar such words.
This was Kheng Yee La first ever National Veterans (well unless he did some events in the 80's? ) anyhow he won the over 60's singles, over 60's Doubles, over 60's X doubles, and Over 50's doubles (a most unexpected win against Malcolm D and Stuart Armstrong) mind you KYL's partner also uses D-Techs OX so a great day for the pimple-lers,
and at last glance he was to play Malcolm Darroch in the over 50's semi (Greg might know how that went) so KYL he enters 5 events and Gold-ed or medal-ed every time

Here's the Youtube video of myself and Malcolm Darroch from the O/40 Teams Test Match. Malcolm and I played 3 times at this tournament, and all three were good matches, pretty close and fun to play, with me winning this match and Malcolm beating me in the teams and 40 singles final. I'll get up a video of one of the ones Malcolm won in the near future, I'm currently working on the O/50 Mens final between Malcolm and Stuart Armstrong, which was an absolute cracker of a match which was a shame somebody had to lose.

Yup, I'm back on the LP, using my old familiar Stiga Destroyer OX.

Cheers,

I know this is an old post but I was curious what Greg uses now, given that Stiga Destroyer is no longer in ITTF LARC as legal

Also does anyone know why Stiga Destroyer was made illegal ?

They have just released new pips sheets and my guess is that they are just not paying for the licencing or manufacture for the destroyer now.

Well S-Jan, these days I use whatever I feel like. My long pip of choice is TSP Curl P-2 with 1.0mm sponge. But in the last couple of years I was playing hardbat with Friendship 802 on both sides for quite a while, and currently I'm using inverted rubber (Killerspin Fortissimo max thickness) on both sides, since I had a friend who needed somebody to loop the ball hard at him so he could train for the Aussie Vets.

All are quite fun to play with actually - I'm just happy to still be playing these days.

I'm a regular reader of the forum - I just don't post much of late. But I still read OOAK and the mytt and tabletennisdaily forums every few days at least. Once I finish setting up my new venue I might even look at doing some more coaching videos of both combination bat and inverted play.

This is VERY frustrating because I am from Australia, as you can tell from my handle (as I admire him) and just because I am visiting USA does not make me a sock puppet & worse I don't understand why Iskander is following me everywhere & harassing me. Yes I have been lurking in this forum & have heard of people mention someone named s- jan or something but there had been serious speculations as to such a person really exists because everyone was accusing everyone else of being s-jan or whatever & I think think thi is very rude especially following posters to harass me to make yourself look like some savior of this forum. God only knows how many sock puppets Iskander may have here or in other forums because he used to repeatedly try to implicate posters by suggesting that they use pipe-bombs in RSTT. You can do your own research in RSTT to find out if this is true or not. I realize this posting will also be probably deleted because Greg & Iskander are considered some holy defenders of this forums from newbie like me.
Whatever floats your boat dudes

Most definitely Yankahardon…

He's been posting fairly reasonable stuff in other threads, as long as he does I don't mind engaging in reasonable conversation, but it's hard for him to hide who he is. When he steps over the line, just zap him.

I won't be posting here anymore. I don't need someone constantly harassing me mistakenly and talking down to be as if if some forum God.

I don't need this

Good Bye
