Just wondering where to buy sponges seporately, as thinking at some point it doing some tests with combining topsheets I like with sponge hardnesses I like..

Ideally looking for somewhere in the EU for postage reasons, but I'm OK with US shops too so long as they ship to the EU.

AliExpress. Any of the Eachengs would be a source.

For "exotic" sponges, like Air Zero.. Cole's:

Table Tennis 11 in France is the most reliable source in the EU I think.

1. Curing (vulcanizing) of rubber is some mistery, indeed

2. Thermo-pressing treatment to fasten the sponge and the topsheet together.

Gluing topsheet on sponge manually is hell messy job, quick to unstuck in play. Nobody will dare for such a crapy product. This is why you can never see any decent videofootage of bonding rubber on sponge manually, for none man alive willing to do such a messy job.

Incidentally - if you're experimenting with thin absorbing sponge under long pips, you might give this a try:

This is the thinnest I've come across (0.8mm). Most are 1mm or 2mm. 2mm isn't very remarkable, maybe this thinner stuff is. The price is definitely right.. and if it doesn't work out as TT sponge you could.. maybe make place mats or coasters out of it? Or give it to the kids.

Of course, Igor would be totally against this.. Not legal, not approved, etc. etc. Yawn.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylene-vinyl_acetate

Great material for school craftings. Zero stretching capability, though.
Shore A = 55 degree. It should feel like a cardboard package.

https://ttdd.eu/tension-schwamm-sonderposten.html

What's "sonderposten"? ("sonder" = "without", "sonder post" = "without mail", "sonder posten" = "special item"... ?? ) I wonder if this is made by ESN. Probably not..
