Hi, I have tried a couple of frictionless antis so far (DMS Mega Block, Dr Neubauer Buffalo and Bison) but I have noticed that after a month of play it feels like anti is gaining some friction, and I have read somewhere on the forum that actually frictionless antis have coating that makes them frictionless and that this coating wears out after some time, so the rubber loses its frictionless characteristics. Is this true? Is there any frictionless anti that plays the same after, lets say, two years of play (if anyone haven't changed his anti that long in this flood of the new rubbers )

I also read somewhere that one said that his Butterfly Super Anti plays the same even after a couple of years. So are the classic antis more durable than frictionless antis, or if you play with classic anti long enough will it become as slippery as frictionless anti, or will it also gain some friction?

The new generation of frictionless antis, especially,DMS ones are designed to last 2/3monhs.The classic antis last forever.This is how the business is made.Def Attack has a vast experience on DMS and the Doc's rubbers .

The best effect wears off after like 20 hours but they are still good for a few months. But then the top sheet might loose its hardness and the sponge can change in speed. Neubauers works a little longer.

I’m not as a good of a player as Def-Attack but I have two training partners who plays at roughly his rating (2000 Swedish TTA) with Super Anti. My understanding is that a new sheet is unplayable for them and that their preference is a 5+ year old sheet that just keeps getting better. It’s no where near as frictionless as the modern flantis but their game is a bit different.

(Both are veteran players that have been using Super Anti since the 80ies).

Here are two photos using high magnification.

One photo is brand new frictionless anti - very good spin reversal and you can see the surface is quite rough.

The next photo is worn frictionless anti - less spin reversal and you can see the surface is smooth in spots.

I.e. it's not a coating. It's just that the impact of loops eventually wears down the rough surface making it smooth, which INCREASES friction.

Interesting. I'd heard it was a coating too. I have a bottle of the DMS cleaner, guess I'll see if that truly does help over time.

Question for those of you who are more experienced with anti, what are the signs that it is gaining grip? Loss of control/reversal?

There should not be a coating, that is not permitted according to ITTF rules.

When they get worn the block goes high, the spin reversal gets worse. It feels different also, like it is softer but still a.little faster (due to the ball grips the rubber).

Never move the rubber once you have glued it to the blade, most frictionless anti's gets more or less ruined by that.

Does this happen with the new ABS2 as well? I was told that was kind of classic-ish in terms of durability.

The topsheet is actually very durable but the thick dampening sponge get faster and you loose control that way.

The ABS 2 of Dr. Neubauer is one of the most durable glanti in the market. It can easily stay good for more than 4 months.

I'm playing with the DMS Scandal since mid-September, and it is still going very strong. I'm playing 4-5 times a week and cleaning it one time per week with the DMS cleaner + microfiber cloth (and every night with my breath too lol, with a microfiber cloth too). I would say DMS Scandal is one the most durable DMS Glanti.
