Hi all,

Has anyone else also noticed a difference between the red and black Tenergy05? My observation is as follows:

BLACK topsheet is softer, tackier, spinnier, grip longer lasting, but slower and less bouncy

RED topsheet is harder, shinier, less spinny, grip not as long lasting, but faster and bouncier

Most pro players use a red rubber on their BH - my theory is that the bounciness and speed help the naturally shorter BH swing - with FH more of the body/arm is used and thus a slower black rubber will help spin and accuracy (which is consistent with Chinese pro players using black rubbers on their FH).

What are your observations and thoughts?

There will always be quality differences betweens every rubber sheet. Unless you have compared 1000s of sheets spread over several years and various batches accounted for shipment conditions and storage and shelf life and many many other factors, I don't see how you can reliably claim facts.

Also the pros don't have problem playing with your setup and performing way better than you with it. :-D

The real reason is they want to use a black sheet of H3 on the forehand, for exactly the reason you mention. The color of the T05 on the backhand is mandated by the rules - they may or may not want harder rubber on the backhand, but can't choose the color. In fact, T05 is softer than H3 - there are a few players (notably Ma Long) who use H3 on the backhand as well, and when they do, they choose a softer sponge.
