I always though this was just a kids game... So one day when we're stuck at home during Covid19 lockdown, I thought I'd play to spend more time with the kids, as the kids were playing it. I discovered it's a really cool game, with probably more adults than kids playing it.

What I really like about it as well, is that it encourages to go out and get more exercise, and meet new people. Even if you can't because of Covid restrictions, they've come up with lots of options to be able to participate from home.

Anyway, just thought I'd check if anyone else here is playing it?

Heh heh heh... Almost 5 years. Level 40, working on 41 (they just added levels above 40 a couple months back). Not really a hard core player either - I've seen people wandering around with four phones. It's more of a, OK, let's drop by a couple places after work, or walk all over the mall for an hour after shopping. These days it's more about occupying gyms than anything else. What's really cool is walking around to different cities and exploring. Last year, I was about to add Tokyo to the list.

Very interesting stuff about Pokemon Go in the eight-hour Adam Curtis epic Can't Get You Out of My Head that BBC just streamed a week or so ago. I don't want to spoil the film by giving it away, so if you have a day to kill check it out.

If you keep playing for 5 years you'll reach level 40 too.. The travel aspect of it is a lot of fun - jackpot is getting a hotel room with a pokestop in reach. Or better yet a couple of gyms. Going for a walk in a strange city at 4am to occupy gyms is fun, especially if there are interesting landmarks to see on the way. Public buses are fun - you pass a lot of pokestops and gyms. Whenever you catch a pokemon it records where it came from, so you plan to keep a few from each city. Whenever you interact with a gym it records that fact on a map and you can see all of them by browsing the map.

It's a lot easier to get to level 40 than it used to be (so I'm told, I've only played for less than a year). All you need is add a lot of friends and exchange gifts. The fun part is exploring and PVP, where you build up and select your team, and play against other players.

I played it when it was popular :P

I think it's become hugely popular during lock-downs!
