I’m thinking of trying out some Fast Arc G1. The super thick sponge is only 2mm? I’m used to playing with max sponge, will there be a noticeable difference with the slightly thinner sponge. From what I have read the G1 is firmer than what I usually play with (R7 soft or Bluestorm Z3).

I'd be surprised if max sponge wasn't at least 2.1mm. If it's any thinner that means the topsheet must be unusually thick.

To quote a detailed review on revspin the top sheet is unusually thick and stiff unlike most newer tensors and more like traditional Chinese. So 2mm is probably the thickest sponge that would be legal.

Traditional Chinese rubbers (729, PF4, even H3, which is actually relatively new in comparison) usually have max sponge thicknesses on the order of 2.1 to 2.2mm. Maybe they're comparing with the newer Tensor/Tensoroids like Rasanter or Karis, which supposedly have thinner topsheets than normal.

I’ve used G1 since last summer in 2.0 and it’s not like a Chinese tacky rubber in any shape or form. It’s an ESN rubber which is quite similar to Rakza 7 but it’s a bit more linear. Way better than Rakza 7 at flat shots but a little bit weaker in the spin department. You will not bottom out G1 unless you’re a pro player.

Thanks, I will give G1 a try on my forehand. New club season about to start here in NZ and the lockdown is coming to an end. I actually like Rakza 7 soft, there’s no good reason for me to change Other than I feel like trying something different.

Re thickness of top sheet, my bluestoorm sponges in max look really thick. I seem to remember something on the packet that said the top sheet is made thin so that the sponge can be a lot thicker. I guess G1 is the reverse - thicker top sheet and thinner (slightly) sponge.

And finally a question - what is actually meant by describing a rubber as linear? Is it the opposite of bouncy?

Linear generally means when you hit soft the ball comes off slow and when you hit harder the ball goes faster in line with how hard you hit. Generally the harder the rubber the more linear they play which is good for pros as they can the more easily push serves back very short, whilst softer rubbers with a bouncy feel can be less linear.

I have found soft feel tensor rubbers like Xiom Vega Europe and Rhyser 43 which have quite a high catapult even at low impact do not suit my close to the table game. However Rasanter 42 which is medium soft is actually very linear and precise in 2mm whilst still having good speed at high impact - an excellent all round rubber for club players.

There's also Fastarc C-1 which I believe has the same top sheet as G-1 but with a softer sponge. Should be more similar to Rakza 7 Soft than G-1.

I only tried C-1 for about a month asI felt it was a bit too slow for long distance loops.

G-1 finally is sold in Max thickness. From what I found, the sponge is 2.15mm.
Max uncut weight is 70g and 49g cut for a Nittaku carbon blade.

Oh really? That's interesting

I've been using G1 in 2mm and it feels good tbh, the best I've played with in terms of what it does for me. Only other rubber I feel does me justice is Tenergy. Although I haven't tried many of the newer tensors etc I assume they're all good tbh

But I feel its always me that's the problem and not the rubber

I have found for some ESN rubbers I prefer 2.0 sponge to max (Andro Rasanter R47 which I no longer use). 2.0 gives me plenty of spin, but also the ability to hit better than the max. Your opinions and experience may vary. (My preferred rubber now is Razka Z-I have only used it in max sponge, but wonder if 2.0 would work as well or better).

Hi,

What would be the weight difference between 2.0mm and Max thickness, for rubbers such as Fastarc G-1, Rakza 7, Rasanter 47, Omega Pro
