Hi, yesterday I tested the Viscaria (black tag) with some kind of Hurricane 3 Nittaku and Donic Z1 turbo. I was very surprised by the speed and spin the balls achieved and even more surprised by the ease and naturalness with which I could topspin. You have the feeling that the blade adapts to the way you play the shot My blade is a Matador Texa Carbon with Gewo Proton Neo 450. I have also used Battle 2 Blue Sponge boosted, Andro Rasanter V42 and Andro Rasanter R53. With this equipment I do not have that ease, power, speed and spin that I achieve with my friend's Viscaria. They are going well but light years from the Viscaria. I think the difference is in the blade and not in the rubbers. I wonder how the long pips Dr. Neubauer Desperado Reloaded OX or Tibhar Grass Dtcs will work on that blade, since they are the ones I use. I understand that Manika Batra uses that combination, Viscaria + Tibhar Grass Dtcs OX but, of course, she is a professional. I see myself buying a Viscaria to try and the question is what weight would be appropriate considering that wearing long pips ox lightens the weight considerably. There is a Spanish forum, in which a user sells the original Viscaria for €145 (I think he is also in this forum) and the Timo Boll Spirit for €111, perhaps you do not notice differences between Viscaria and Timo Boll Spirit...What do you think? ? Greetings.

Might be a good combination, you will not know until you try it. If you have the money, go for it!

It would be fantastic for you to use it so you can tell us how easy/ hard it is to block short consistently.
My theory is swings and roundabouts >>> you get great results for inverted, you will be inconsistent with your pips .

Wish you luck!!

I also wonder about this. I hit with club mates Viscarias and they feel very controlled, easily more controlled on the inverted side than my 7 ply wood blades. It is tempting to buy one. Please post your results.

I can block short with Matador Texa Carbon and Donic Carbospeed (Desperado Reloaded OX green & Tibhar Grass Dtcs OX green or black, better with green) but not always (timing, distance, speed, spin...)

I play a viscaria sdc clone with flanti. It's a great combo. Can block very short and low. It's very good for topsspin and blocking with inverted.

Maybe you will need some pips with dampening sponge.

Cheers

Today I played with Viscaria+T05+Dtecs ox. Mostly sets with normal training partner. Viscaria+dtecs first impression was good or even very good. :D It has nice speed and soft touch. Reversal might not be top notch, but bit of a grip gives possibilities to manipulate the ball.

Viscaria with T05 was hard experience. It was fast with little dwell time. I had difficulties to find right looping angle. Going right to the sets without warm up didn't help. I had to hold up my power just to land balls. Drives and loops were quite fast, but not fast enough to win points. Maybe I just need Hurricane or something slower for the FH side.

Few more time with Viscaria. It seems to be too fast and hard to control for me. ;( :whew: The blade needs better player/faster reflexes/more training etc. Dtecs in the BH gives some good shots, but overall it's just struggle. FH gives bullets, but otherwise too many points are lost in easy mistakes.

I continue my journey with Viscaria... I put boosted Hurricane Neo on the FH and it is great. Cotrol, speed, gears, spin, stability are all there. :) BH with dtecs goes well, but with mixed feelings. Faster balls bounce sometimes way too long and some easy mistakes are made. Chopping is surprisingly stable. Results agains training partners are good, but what happens in real tournaments?

Roy perhaps you need a thin dampening sponge under the Dtecs to give a bit more control and help block hard shots. Otherwise maybe an inner carbon blade with Limba outer plies might be the answer.

After use it i still prefer Matador Texa Carbon. I'm used to playing the Matador, but with the Viscaria and similar the ball comes out too low, into the net and it's hard for me to change my style of play. The blocks are longer. I like the FH better with the Viscaria but the difference when playing close to the table is not that great.

I have similar problem with dtecs too, with low balls going to the net. I have been trying to open the blade more. When I try to play BH safe as possible, it's not easy to do. Disturbance is not great, so if I play safer, balls are often too easy. So, aggressive play works sometimes, but margin for shots is not great and easy mistakes follow.

FH is great with smashing and driving type of shots. Slow looping don't work that well. The main problem is that my mobility is not that great, so I can't use FH that often, so the great potential for FH is not used to the full.

Maybe I try Matador Texa Carbon sometime.

But the India trio are technically not defensive players at all, at least not a classic chopping style defensive player. Sure their BH is mostly LP blocking, occasionally attack or twiddle to attack, but still, I cannot call the Indian ladies "defensive" players, at least not in my definition.

And I am wondering Annabelle, what would you consider to be a good blade for players like the India trio? Very few of us have the luxury to get name brand manufacturers to do a customized blade

The Innerforce layer ZLF would probably be a better option than the Viscaria for OX LP for club level players but at £180.00 it is lot to gamble without trying one.
