Julian?

From drneubauer.com...

New sponge for GORILLA available!

Our Anti-Spin rubber GORILLA ist available as from now with a new sponge with 1.8mm thickness. This special sponge slows down the ball decisively especially while blocking and chopping. This way the rubber produces more disruptive effect and offers a much better control. GORILLA can be ordered with this new special sponge on our online-shop as usual in red and black. Simply select the sponge thickness "1.8mm" from the corresponding drop-down menu.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions about this sponge or about placing orders on our website in general!

I think I'll wait for the new anti! This stuff isn't like buying peace keeper you know! In fact I guess my packs of 4 sheets of TG2 from Alex cost less than one sheet of Dr N anti!

Julian, stop being so selfish and go buy this. I want to know if it's any good and am relying on you to test it! Thanks

World money crisis? Who cares about the world's crisis. I've been having money crisis for years now...still bought TT stuff though

Julian, its not like you to worry about a little thing like money in the quest for trialling new equipment. I know you say its a concern, but you end up going and doing it anyway!

There's an old saying that goes something like:

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Is there any truth to the rumour the banks are spreading; that they won't lend to each other because Julian has it all and won't buy any anti loop :!:

I look forward to your review when it comes Julian :D I've wasted a lot too and won't be trialing many more new rubbers. My list of tried anti include toni hold new 1mm & 0x, toni hold, super anti, neo anti, tibhar ellen defense all in red and black (neo the exception black only) and i've tried even more long pips.

I must admit, if it was hallmark, I'd probably risk it and try it, but after the hype of grizzly/gorilla I'll just buy the new one and see if the descriptions this time are true before risking more cash!

OK Chris, you review the new sponge, I'll review the new anti!

Have to say I haven't won a single league match since switching to anti, but I still think it is the right thing in the long run

Sure no worries :)

I've only played a couple of games with the Anti and am the same, I've not won a game. However, in fairness I have been playing exceptionally badly lately.

The new blade I have has super control, so I'm just hoping that combined with this apparently slower sponge, the Gorilla will be at a more manageable speed! We'll see...I'll let you know how it goes once the rubber turns up.

It was ordered last Friday and I'm hoping it'll be here sometime this week....we'll see!

:)

The Gorilla has arrived! The sponge is a different colour - yellow, not pink, so it's not the same as their new Anti range.

The sponge also comes with a backing sheet (like Grizzly) that you peal off and then apply glue to both sponge and bat. The rubber / sponge combination is very rigid and feels like it might even break if you try to bend it - very strange!

I have a feeling that it will be difficult to remove from the blade after gluing - rubber / sponge might be damaged if you try to peel it off. The good Doctor does invent some strange products.

I'll report back after my practice tonight with it!

Bend the sheet near the logo and you will see the topsheet will crack. Don't need much bending either.

That makes sense. That would be the only way to dampen the speed while keeping the reversal. I just have a concern that the pips under topsheet also contributed to the Gorilla's problems. Anyway, I also ordered a sheet last week, but of course it always takes forever to get to the States.

Will be looking for your review on this Chris. Make sure you don't make any rash judgement with this - give it time to get feel as it will be so different after your years of pips.

Miracle of miracles, I received my 1.8mm Gorilla in the mail today. I immediately slapped it on a Fibercomp, didn't bother to glue or cut it.

After 15 minutes of robot time, I've got to say it's a massive improvement. Can easily double bounce and also can counter surprisingly well. Spin reversal still isn't at Super Block levels, but it's definitely there.

The handhold block may or may not be effective, but when taking the ball off the bounce with some wrist movement and combined with a slight pullback, the results were pretty interesting.

Still a lot to learn about it , but I can already say that this is the best anti on the market.

I've been having a hard enough time deciding whether I like Phoenix or Phantom better, now I guess I can add Gorilla to the overall confusion.

By the way, I ordered Gorilla in red. Guess I need to try it in black now.
