Defenda Cream MRS is a 729 rubber MRS meaning Magic Red Sponge.

Friendship is the company name behind 729, which is one of their brands like LKT and Gambler are.

actually, ive learnt that for ppl beginners to use LP's, the double fish 1615 is very good because it familiarizes 0oa6ers to spin reversal as it excels in this aspect and that because it is insensitive to spin so that its easier to block/p[ush easily.

5 years ago, i wanted to restart playing table tennis after a long break. At that time the old shopkeeper recommended and sold me a

Vari Spin on both sides (i think they were both 1,9mm thick)

So i think his idea was a very elastic ALL-Blade with medium/medium-hard allround euro style rubbers (AFAIK Vari Spin is a slower kind Sriver L). I hated that blade, but maybe he was right, and i would play much better now, if i had stuck to this setup.

In generally I played too fast setups over the years. My first blade (about 17 years ago) was a BTY Firehand with Sriver L and it felt awful. I think because it was too fast. After i restarted playing table tennis i changed my equipment often, and i've tested approx. 40 blades and 30 rubbers. At the moment i think that i have to re-learn the basic strokes, i think that im a newbie again.

and btw, could you pls tell me how the gurbba pro plays? they say it is a v ery good blade for chopping.

I have been playing tt for 30 years. Always used butterfly premades. When i bought first custom i thought i had to order fast with fast rubber. Big mistake, bought tibhar triple carbon with varites both sides. Learned lesson and now play with yasaka mark 5, lkt ayous hinoki and gambler arylate carbon. Advice to first time buyers: buy offensive- blade and couple it with easy to control inverted. Watch other players at club with similar style and ask what rubber they use. Remember that a rubber that you like on one blade may play totally different on another blade. Advice: stick to one blade and change rubbers. Chinese rubbers are nice and cheap and hold up as well as more expensive european. hope this helps ya

That's exactly what happened to me

My first setup was played safe and so I had a OFF (more like ALL with a tiny sweet spot (Nittaku Shell Shock)) blade and 1.7 Flextra and 2.0 Micro. That was cool. It was decent. But let's call it not so good due to NO FEEDBACK AT ALL!

Next setup was ordered due to the hinoki virus from MYTT.   See my signature

Next setup is much more sensible and it's a ALL+ blade with some nice OFF rubbers. Much better!

Don't buy a blade which was minimal/no vibration!!! It definately holds back touch and control in blocks. Butterfly VSG series is a big NONONO.

Get a blade with none of that fancy vibration shutout grip. How many pros (I'm not saying I'm a pro or anywhere near that level but hey, if it works for them, why not for us?) use these no-vibration blades?

Exceptions are for Schlager who has the SKILLS and TOUCH it takes to use such a fast blade ontop of it having no feedback at all.

Which has larger head, JOOLA tactics or Matsushita Pro? I have also heard that the matsushita handle is extremely small, is this true?

I am new to this forum. I joined it to get some advice. I used to play recreationally about 10 years back. Now i have started playing again. I need advice on what to buy. I read this whole thread and am a bit confused as what to buy.

My playing style as of now is that i am quite offensive on FH, but bit defensive on the BH. I am looking for a shake hand blade.

Also does the One of a kind online shop will glue the rubber as well if i select the blade and the rubbers.

Any advice will be welcome. I am looking at spending in the AU $50 - $70 mark. I am not willing to spend more at the moment as i really don't know for how long i will continue to play.

Welcome to the forum Hawa. I hope you stick around longer than just to buy a new bat, but you have to start somewhere right. Actually I was kind of like you. Joined for bat advice, and wanted to spend something like you do too.

First answer, yes the shop will glue the rubbers to the blade for you.

I had one of these at one stage and I wouldn't say it was a super quick blade, but it wasn't dead slow either. Quite well balanced and has a nice handle:

Doubt you'd go wrong with this
http://oneofakindtrading.com.au/Shop/pr ... ucts_id=81

I sold it to a friend who used it well and then passed it on to another friend when he stepped up a bit in speed.

These are also supposed to be great value, but I haven't used one:

Doubt you'd go wrong with this on the FH in red:
http://oneofakindtrading.com.au/Shop/pr ... cts_id=177

Probably go a 2mm sponge here or a 2.2mm if you want a bit more speed

And this on the BH in black:
http://oneofakindtrading.com.au/Shop/pr ... cts_id=222

And a 1.5 mm here if you want to chop/push/good control on your BH.

All up I think you'd be up for about $55-60 plus postage. Not sure where you are though for what that'd be. Perhaps ask Haggisv in the shop questions section, he's the owner. I don't even get a commision for this salesmanship, but I do get the satisfaction of helping out a fellow TT-er. 8)

Thanks for your quick reply. I will probably place an order this weekend. Also i am in Sydney for shipping is quite reasonable.

Also can you please explain what does the thickness of rubber do. Like the 729 FX is available in 1.5mm and 2.0mm. What is the influence of the rubber thickness on the stroke.

The thicker the sponge on the rubber the more bouncy it will usually be. So for a backhand chop where you are trying to slide the bat under the ball to create spin, a thinner sponge will let the topsheet develop more spin before the ball releases. A thicker sponge will do the opposite so generally less spin will be on the ball. On the FH where you want more speed the extra bounce helps because you are hitting with more force and spin is generated with speed through the force and the rubbers "springiness". Of course the blade composition also has affect on all of this too, but thats a whole other discussion.

Thanks for the information. I have now got the Galaxy 896 along with the rubbers as recommended by you.

It was a problem for the first few days of playing with it. but that has gradually gone away. Now i am feeling much better playing with it.

One thing i am noticing with this bat is that, if the ball hits slightly towards the outside edge of the bat i get a lot of vibrations on the handle. Is this normal. My previous bat didn't have any vibrations.

Butterfly Andrzej Grubba with Srivers on both sides (as per my sig). Great control, good for someone who is going to take up the sport seriously....it is even good for intermediate players too.

Sorry Hawa missed this until now. Vibrations in blades vary widely. Some people seek a blade like this to get feedback on their stroke, others prefer closer to no vibrations. Its a personal choice thing and it is normal for some blades yes. In general higher quality blades often have less vibration and an increased sweet spot, although not necessarily as it comes down to the blades construction and target market, ie. purchasers who like v don't like vibration. For you at this stage it may not be such a bad thing as you will know when you haven't centred the ball. Often in reviews people will mention how much vibration a blade has. So if eventually you decide to get a blade with less vibration, read up and research what you think will suit you best.

im planning on buying a new bat

now, i'm an intermediate player with a pretty offensive play.

I played with a bat from someone from the club who had the Butterfly Jonyer Hinoki and FH Tenergy 05 and BH Tenergy 64.
The feel of the blade was amazing, but this bat was too fast for me.

So i'm planning on buying the Butterfly Kiso Hinoki V (off-) blade with Tenergy 64 on the FH (2.1 or 1.9?) and i'm still not sure what to put on my backhand. In principle I want to put Tenergy 64 as well because I want to play an even offensive game with my forehand and my backhand, but unfortunately my BH isnt that good yet.

People say that you should put a less fast rubber on the BH, but I have the feeling I need the speed of the BH rubber because I can't give that much hitpower to the ball as I can with my forehand, what do you think?
And I can't make a choice between the BH rubber, Tenergy 64? Sriver G2 FX? Tackifire special ? Or someone else? and what thicknesses?

thanks in advance for some advice,

Phill
