im mainly a flat hitter with sp on my fh,im trying to learn how to loop on my fh with dawei inspirit 2.2,use my sp on my bh for blocking and punching with.the only thing with this set up is i dont get the same amount of backspin on my puches,my currant blade is a butterfly carbo x5,but ive have been told it might not be the best blade for looping.i dont want to spend to much money and heard that the galaxy 896 was a great blade for looping at the price,do you think its worth trying the galaxy out thanks for your help blocker.

I got an N Series wood blade from Rob and a 896 from De Haggis. Both were well under $20 and loop real consistant. You will not go wrong with your choice of an inexpensive Galaxy blade - and you still have change for a Fosters or two. If they don't work for you (that wont happen), you are not out a lot of $$$.

I played with 896 for a while. It is nice for looping; flexible and lots of feel. I had to change up because my blocks had no kick and a lot of my mid-distance hits were going short. Good technique could probably fix that, though.

Very good , very alive blade , no hollow sound. It is a good alternative to Stiga Clipper wood. In fact the shape of 896 with ST handle looks identically with a Clipper ST.

If you flip the ball over pushing or chopping the ball, then this blade is for you. If you are willing to push, and chop till you get a nice deep ball to loop, possibly get a hair stiffer blade. The flex in this blade makes pushing, and chopping kinda wierd. Like I said though if you flip the ball rather than push/chop it's a GREAT blade.

I purchased the 896 from Eacheng for under $10. Out of the package the blade looks of very good quality, i paired it with inspirit 2.2 on forehand and globe 999 on the backhand. Loops are real nice and spinny with alot of control. For $10 you cant get a better deal on a great blade.

896 loops all day, all night nonstop continuous.

896 is not great feel on solid blocking, punching, and cutting, although you can still get used to it.

A thicker, stiffer blade, like Dawei Matrix is much better for that while maintaining some looping ability.

Still, at $10, 896 is a great blade. Loops much better than a lot of expensive BTY blades.

Another good point for mixed players or allrounders is that the blade is SLOW, like ALL speed class SLOW. That helps absorb some energy off the ball when defending or cutting.

For a couple years, I had the 896 as an LP scout setup. I would sometimes break it out in the club, do 2-3 BH chops with LP, then twiddle and BH rip away. Did that on FH as well, great blade for counterlooping away from table. Ball does not make a sonic boom after you hit it, but it feels good and stays on the table with enough pace. The magic is hte surprise in your sudden counter anyway, so control, not power is needed for that.

What is the thickness of galaxy 896? I'm looking for 5.4 or 5.5 mm tops. Thanks

It's in their budget range, so the quality tends to vary. Galaxy's top range tends to be more consistant and higher quality.

I have one, it's OK. But THE inexpensive Yinhe blade to try is the N11. It's even cheaper than the 896 (which is a legacy blade from the 70s), and not only does it loop nicely, it's very nice for topspin drives, kills and blocks, too. Expecially hard topspin drives against backspin. But in the beginning it will feel weird - switching back and forth between the N11 and other blades requires a few minutes of adjustment, for some reason. It just feels very different. As far as quality goes - when you remove the shrink wrap you'll find the face plies are mirror smooth - absolute tactile delightfulness.

Ask whoever it is you're buying from to send you two of the lightest blades in the shop (or two with identical weights) - that'll take care of inconsistency.

The handle is ugly, though.

Iskandar
