Anyone tried this blade out yet? How does it play? Any short reviews?

I assume you saw my writeup in the shop, copied below? I reckon it's one of the best from 729... only downside is the handle is a little thin.

“The BOMB is a blade formulated for modern and European style of Play. In keeping with modern demands, mid distance power with short game touch 729 BOMB uses a gradation of ply’s the outer being hard to medium to balsa with a cork core. Balsa wood is light and gives it a 'catapult' effect. The Cork veneer in the middle gives a spring like effect for mid-distance kick, and the very hard and thin outer veneers gives it very good speed. This blade has very good dwell time for loading up those spinny loops. Great control and feel. This offensive blade also plays good short game allowing for superior control of push, block, and flip.”

Ratings :

Speed: OFF 9+
Control: 9+
Weight 85g+/-2
Approx. head size: W= 151mm H= 158mm

Its a blade thats always attracted me, but its one I never bought (lost many of them on e-bay though LOL - shows how popular they are). It sounds like an excellent blade for the price (especially if you find one going cheap on e-bay).

The BOMB is a really good blade. The description is pretty much spot on, that cork in it does really give it a kick. If you're going to play close to the table, I would probably suggest something else, as that kick would probably be a little too much. Or, if you use really fast rubbers, adding that extra bounce to your shots might bother your control. But with the slower, spinny Torrent that I use on my forehand, I find that it adds just enough speed and that extra gear, and for chopping I've found that it does give a very nice feeling. Even looping, I feel like I have very good control, and it feels pretty light to me.

I'm not sure, what do you guys use to weigh yours? If I have something similar around, I'd be happy to weigh mine.

I finally got the blade. And two things do not please me: the heavy weight (89g) and the very thin handle. Nevertheless i play it right now, which means it cannot be that bad at all. It's rather slow compared to my Hinoki Carbon, the name "bomb" isn't really matching its speed, i would rate it OFF-. It is not really elastic but not stiff either, something inbetween. It give a nice touch however, without vibrations (like some Stiga), and doesn't feel "hollow" either (like some Balsa), quite solid feel, simply good touch. I bought it for 15€ and for that price its really good. I play it with a CTE-tuned Spin Spiel Ultima on backhand (wow!), forehand i haven't chosen yet. Maybe Tango, maybe Pronte Soft, maybe Bryce. I need some power on forehand.

To me, it felt light, but I guess the heavy/light comparison depends on what you were playing with. for years, I used a Juic Kalinic, which is really heavy, then switched to the Instinct-plus, which I still felt was a little heavier than the Bomb. I don't know if I'd want anything much lighter for my setup, I'd feel like I didn't have enough control. It's whatever works best for you!

Actually the handle of "729 Bomb" is too thin for my taste, but against all these facts: i simply play good with this blade. So i keep it for a while. Don't know what comes next.

It has a very short handle though. People may not like this. In a very short hit, it felt good and I thought it was fast. I tried this combo with 729 Higher and Cream transcend.

Hey the handle looks very fun and funky!!!

Image

I've always wanted to try this, I planned on getting it early last year but I ended up on getting a 8030 the sardius clone from Alex.

The handle is just a little thin, which can be fixed with some grip tape of course... It plays very nice, I've tried it on a few occassions.

I like you new signature MM! 8) 8) 8)
