I suppose it will depend on a definition of "cheaper althernative".

For instance, I bought a Grubba All+ for about £35, and for its particular combination of control, spin, speed and feel, if I wanted something similar, I would buy another one. On the other hand, the bat I use currently is a Yinhe 980XX, which may be a very good replacement for a BTY Matsushita Pro Model, but is not significantly cheaper than the now discontinued MPM.

Certainly I would look at the 980 in place of the Victas models.

This is a good resource:

Not completely accurate, but a better starting point than anywhere else I've seen.

Sanwei and Yinhe will likely make a similar blade to every model from another brand...if not make them for the other brands too.

Hahaha.. I looked up the M8:

Sanwei M8 5 plies 80g 6.0mm thick. Plies: Walnut Walnut Walnut Walnut Walnut

The N11 isn't listed (yet) - I wanted to see if he was capable of identifying meranti.

I suppose "walnut" must be a placeholder. The M8's face plies look like obeche (i.e. ayous). A 6mm blade made entirely of walnut would probably weigh 95-100 grams I think.

Though I may be wrong, the M8 (I think) has a mixture of Ayous and Paulownia wood . I certainly don't think it has any layer of walnut in its composition. Any one know for sure? Isk I guess?

Nothing in there looks like walnut, which is a dark brown wood. Yes, paulownia (kiri) is a very commonly used wood for blade cores in China, so it's likely the three inner plies are paulownia and the face plies are obeche (ayous).

That makes pretty good sense Isk as the blade is light, has just the right speed (at least for me! :D ) and very good control
