Have you ever suddenly changed your playing style so much your opponent had trouble playing you?
I play SH and penhold, inverted and SP, although I am not good at any one style.

With the new plastic ball I came to realise that mixing things up is the road to trouble the opponent. We cannot live just on the pip side any more to get points.

The speed on the ball in serves and fh attack is paramount at high levels.Taking advantage of the two different rubbers is crucial.

If you've read enough Larry Hodges you'll know that all the top players have several games. If Plan A isn't working, there's a Plan B and a Plan C. All the top international choppers can attack, and attack at the 2700 level. All the attacking players have some form of defense. I read an account by Johnny Leach - can't remember if it was in his book or in some other article, but he was writing about another English top player, Denis Neale. Neale was active internationally, if I'm not mistaken, from the 1960s until the 1970s, wrote an incredible book, and played with Butterfly C4. Pips out. Topspin attack. Leach said, of Neale, that if you watched him, you'd think a top player you'd need to learn just two strokes (which I suppose would have been forehand topspin drive and backhand topspin drive). But one day, Leach was playing against a young up-and-coming player who was outhitting him. So what did he do? He started playing chop defense and won the match.
