I missed that one, looks interesting. I really like Dawei's pips, wonder how that one will play. I also found another one, 388D-1 large, never heard of that before either. It might be same as Huang LP though...

Seems that these long pips are not ITTF approved and cannot be used in competition. I'll ask Jim from ttnpp.com about these rubber.

Cheers,
Ma'man

Jim from ttnpp gave me info on these 2 rubbers :

- the special version of Dawei's 388 is according to him ITTF approved
- the other long pips rubber is a DIY rubber (wonder who makes it for whom) and is therefore not authorized.

I think I will order these long pips today as I am curious....

Cheers,
Ma'man

this rubber was developed by a non-pro LP player in China. He lives in Beijing and won a lot of non-pro competition. In China, for non-pro matches, they don't care what equipment you use

I ordered both long pips in black and Ox. I should get them by the end of next week with a new Shark II.

I wonder how this guy, Huang could develop a rubber "alone". Moming1, have you seen the guy play? If so, how does he play? (at the table, away???)

Cheers,
Ma'man

There are 2 "famous" LP non-pro players in Beijing. They both do very well in non-pro tournaments in China and also in the World Veterans. I believe both of them are pen hold players. So in a way, their style does not really match most of of shakehand LP players in this forum. I have not seen him play, just read about him in Table Tennis World Chinese magazine

But if somebody has the Guai Jiao Huang and has calipers, measure it, I wouldn't be surprised if it is over 2.0mm

And I heard at one point in time Dawei made the Guai Jiao Huang for this guy

The ad copy on ttnpp.com mentions that this rubber is used by a player named Huang Jian Jiang.

Is this the guy? Doesn't seem particularly special to me.

I can't access megaupload. But I believe the guy is Huang Jian Jiang. Let's be honest, most older penhold LP players don't "look" impressive when they play, but if they are good, when you actually play against them, it's like playing against a wall

Hey look what I found. There's a ton of video of his guy online (4 pages worth). I watched a few of the training vids and have revised my opinion. He's good.

I downloaded the files and it's interesting to see how this guy play.

You can see another pimple master on the 1st video; will you guys spot him?

Cheers,
Ma'man

I received both Huang and 388 LP today from ttnpp.com

I measured both rubbers :
Huang : 19.3cm x 20.4cm. The rubber is pretty thin, pips larger than a regular LP but not too much. The lower part of the rubber is a bit too big for me and I assume it's better to have the LP glued on an oversized blade

388 : first impression when i removed the rubber from the package : holly cow this rubber is gigantic!!!! 21.3cm x 22.4cm. Pips : 2mm x 2mm they are really big. Once again the bottom part of the rubber is too big and takes quite some space on my blade (Toccata altered to the dimensions of Neubauer KungFu)

I should try both rubbers on my TSP blades tonight with Shark II on the FH.

Cheers,
Ma'man

From the chinese forums, he is a master long pip player. He uses Haifu Penguin (short pips) for his forehand and long pips OX and he twiddles. He also have his own blade which he uses to maximise the effects of long pips. He also have very tricky and spiny serves using short pips.

A link to his penhold blade
