DG is the king of chop block. Passive block with DG is hard to control regardless spiny or power loops.

IMO there would always be a limit where LPs block does not work anymore. Slower blade does not change the limit much. So I personally did not bother with success rate of blocking but tried to prevent strong attacks from the very beginning.

Yes, you are right ; trying to prevent attacks is one option , however, many times you cannot block short or mid table on strong shots,..... twiddling is an option but many times against extremely fast combos, you have no time as the ball comes to you so fast,... therefore, you need a rubber that brakes more,....that´s the idea behind my post ....

Works great for me with dampening sponge on 979 and you can block very short over net with huge backspinn :whew:

The use of a dampening sponge proves that 979 has poor braking effect. It seems that you need to use it so you can block shorter / mid table on hard shots .

The problem is that - for those of us who like OX and the feeling of the ball with OX- we need to first find a great dampening sponge, which makes the combination more expensive. When I tested pips with sponge I did not like the feeling of the sponge under the pips .

When the sponge goes dead with usage, you will have again to replace it,thus, spending more money. If it works for you, great!! :) .

Back to DG,we all know any rubber has pluses and minuses, however, in my view , against high ranked players, the need to avoid long and even mid high balls is paramount since due to the speed of their combos, we have no time to react and block .

Hence, the need for both low trajectory and braking effect .Not all the rubbers perform the same, so we look for the best in the above mentioned department. If our strategy is counterattacking, we need this kind of rubbers. Some people STILL think we want to live on just spin reversal or errors, no, no, my point is we need the most disturbing rubber to play against so we can develop our game and strategies .
