Hello,

I have been playing as a modern defender for a few years now, and it is time to replace my LP on the backhand. Therefore, I wanted to ask what you think the best sponge thickness would be for my new LP.

My skill level is reasonable, and my style of play is mostly the following:
- Forehand: all-round to offensive style (block, loop, smash), with the tendency not to play extremely close to the table
- Backhand: pushes when close to the table, but mostly chopping from mid distance, which is what I would like to focus on with the new LP rubber
- I literally never use the LP for offensive strokes, but often twiddle to surprise the opponent or close the point when needed

My choice would be between a sponge in the range of 0.5 and one around 1.0. Which one would you recommend?
As of the rubber, I would go either for a Feint Long II or again for a Curl P1V.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Thinner sponge is better for more spin and control during chops. Thicker sponge is better for more spin and control while pushing over the table.
Pushing is important. If you often twiddle then thin sponge is better for higher quality and control at pure defense.

Hello Omut,

Thank you for the reply. I think then I will go for the 0.5mm thick sponge.
