Now that I'm back playing SP to chop with haggis, I'd love to get my hands on whichever of these you think is more appropriate to that style of play :)

The Blue is good, wouldn't mind trying the red at some point.

When is the shop planning to get these in?

I have no idea which (if either) would be suitable for chopping. :(

Has anyone tried Spectol Red and Blue?
Does blue have more control?

Less control hard to handle but doable I think the latest batchs are faster than last year

Never tried the Spectol versions, but if the sponges are the same as spinpips Blue and red, the blue is noticeably harder and less bouncy. More direct, and probably faster on smashes, but not as fast on other shots. Plays similar to a tuned dolphin, although the dolphin gets harder and harder as the weeks pass.

Yes, I would say the blue has better control, more linear feedback, blocking and placement are easier.

Would the harder sponge make it spinnier or harder to spin with?

appreciate this is not really what short pimples are for?

I use the Blue Spectol, have not used the red, but I think it is easier to spin the ball using the blue as you have better feel. When I use soft sponge pips it bottoms out and the ball goes flatter. With the harder pips you can feel the ball more easily to roll it or loop underspin. But maybe that's just me.

If i m not mistaken soft sponge makes a higher arc but I think softer sponge allows for more sink since stops rhe ball ( somebody thinks the same?) Old waran with softer sponge allowed me to make softer returns and more sink

I agree - at least with Waran, the softer sponge allows for more control.
But I guess that might also depend on the sponge thickness and the topsheet hardness.

Soft sponge on short pips are only OK for control on blocking fast topspin if they do not bottom out. I use both Keiler and Waran in varying thicknesses and in the thinnest sponges the wood comes into play very early.

I think the harder blue is capable of more spin and arc on the right brush strokes, but the red easier to loop with if that makes sense. Red is much more forgiving when you dig in the sponge and really rip. Whereas again, the blue is more precise in blocking and smashes, partially because of less catapult, more predictable. I guess that's why control is subjective and not measurable.

Also when thinner (I use 1.5) the blue is less likely to bottom out.
